ALYANSA NG KABATAANG MINDANAO PARA SA KAPAYAPAAN (AKMK)

Our Urgent Task: Advancing the Peoples’ Struggles

A Revisit to the Noble History:

Looking back from the time the Alyansa ng Kabataang Mindanao para sa Kapayapaan (AKMK) was formally organized, the major pressing concern that echoed around the corners of Mindanao is the ongoing unrest and sporadic occurrence of armed confrontation between t

he government forces and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F) that lead to the declaration of an All Out War. The collateral damages were so great that it further fueled the anti peoples sentiments among the inhabitants of Mindanao and its contiguous Islands not to mention the other issues such as the continuous ecological destruction, development aggression, landlessness, and ill delivered social services that put in peril the situation of the marginalized majority of the Tri-People; the Bangsamoro, the Katawhang Lumad and the Mindanao Migrants. The unanimous cry amongst the young sector of Mindanao was anchored primarily on the recognition of the very rights of the peoples’ taking into account the recognition to the Bangsamoro Struggle for their Right to Self Determination as inclusive to the struggles as well to other peoples’ Right to Self Determination. History has unfolded, and finally the Bangsamoro are about to gain the sought after recognition of their decade old struggle that took its precedents from the century-old historical injustices that colored the historical consciousness of the people and subsequently reflected on the different programs and policies advanced by the National Government. The Critical Support

The Alyansa ng Kabataang Mindanao para sa Kapayapaan has consistently stressed on the inclusivity in all aspects concerning the pursuit of long lasting justpeace in Mindanao, inclusivity in the sense that no other peoples’ right will be undermined in whatever initiative that would only cater a few. The alliance believes that only in a genuine grassroots involvement could realize and operationalize the sense of ownership in all processes. Further, the Alliance believes in a sound balance that relates peoples’ action towards the harmony of all creations including the recognition to preserve and protect the environment for the future usage of the coming generation; that our environment is not for sale, and not for political bargaining. The young peoples’ of Mindanao would want to make it a trend, as a popularized method of advancing the interest of all the tri-peoples’ of Mindanao. Let it be known that the Alyansa ng Kabataang Mindanao is for : Tara, Sama Ka.

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁

This year's theme reminds us: environmental progress isn't handed down by governments, it is built by us. Our power, our planet. The change we need comes from collective action, community mobilization, and the daily fight of ordinary people protecting where they live and work.

But today, we hold that power in one hand and grief in the other.
We remember those taken by typhoons, floods, and rising seas. Victims not of nature, but of negligence. While communities drown, governments protect extractive industries over people. Ghost flood control projects fail when the rains come. Water crises deepen while officials look away. The powerful profit; the poor perish.

Our Power, Our Planet means we refuse to accept this. It means reparations for survivors, real infrastructure that works, and holding polluters and negligent officials criminally accountable.

The Earth doesn't need saving. We need saving from those destroying it.

For the victims. For the future. Our power, our planet. Demand justice.

Iligan City and Lanao del Norte face a deepening crisis, recurrent floods, water insecurity, ecosystem loss, and rising disaster risks that hit our urban poor, farmers, fisherfolk, women, youth, and elders the hardest. Climate change, extractive development, and weak safeguards are threatening our rights to life, health, food, and livelihood.

This April 23, the Iligan City People's Council launches the 𝗜𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻-𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, a collective platform to advance people-centered, rights-based climate action. We are pursuing collaborative and participatory engagement with stakeholders, government units, and communities to address the effects of the climate crisis in our localities through meaningful and impactful policies and resolutions.

In this sacred month of mercy and reflection, we stand in prayer and solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters.

May our fasting purify our intentions, our prayers strengthen our faith, and our compassion uplift those in need. May this Ramadan renew our hope and deepen our commitment to serving the common good.
