While we savor the food on our table, let us take a moment to honor and recognize the farmers who worked diligently and gave their lives to its production. Despite working under extreme weather conditions, their dedication makes sure that we have enough food to survive each day.

Yet, despite this effort, many farmers—particularly in our country—continue to face challenges and be denied with numerous opportunities. This is specially in light of the continuous threats of importation that compete with these local producers. Thus, this day should serve as a reminder to recognize their hard work, speak up for their rights, and support initiatives that empower them.

As we commemorate World Mental Health Day, the Iligan City Youth Congress stands in solidarity with those advocating for mental health awareness and support. While today serves as a global reminder, we believe mental health should be a priority in our daily lives, upheld and celebrated in every endeavor.

Through consistent efforts to break the stigma and promote mental well-being, we strive to create spaces where everyone feels safe, supported, and heard. Let’s continue to work together toward a future where mental health is treated with the care and importance it truly deserves.

On October 6, 2024, the Iligan City Youth Congress (ICYC) marked a significant milestone with its formal inauguration as an official organization. This historic event follows the year-long success of the Iligan City Youth Congress, a project of the Rotaract Club of Iligan Bay and the Dilaab Northern Mindanao Coalition, supported by Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed) through the IGNITE Grants. This grant facility funds projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening youth participation in democratic governance. YouthLed is a joint project of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and The Asia Foundation.

With this step, ICYC transitions into a permanent body dedicated to amplifying youth voices in Iligan’s governance and community initiatives.

In recognition of the important relationship between the ICYC and the Iligan City Council (Sangguniang Panlungsod), all council members were invited to this momentous occasion. We were honored by the presence of Vice Mayor Dodong Alemania and Atty. Marlene Young, who led the charging and oath-taking of the newly inducted officers. The ICYC deeply values collaboration with all sectors of the community, and this event symbolizes our commitment to working alongside local leaders, regardless of political affiliations, for the betterment of Iligan’s youth.
