From April 25-29, 2026, the World Art Forum, which served as the overarching event for the Shanghai and Beijing, China conferences, brought together leading artists, technologists, and cultural policymakers in a gathering filled with impressive showcases and urgent ethical debates. Hosted by the Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA) College of Art, Technology and Management and the China Federation of Literary and Arts Circle (CFLAC), the event centered on one question: who benefits when machines create culture?
Into this dialogue stepped Asst. Prof. Hernenigildo M. Dico, Jr. from the Department of Philosophy and Humanities (DPH), College of Arts and Social Sciences, MSU-IIT, bringing insights rooted in Mindanao’s textile traditions and a firm reminder that technology must serve people, not appropriate them.
