𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲? 🌍
Migratory birds are species that make regular, seasonal journeys between their breeding and wintering grounds to find abundant food supplies, escape harsh winter freezes, and utilize longer daylight hours in northern latitudes to raise their young. In the Philippines, common migratory visitors include the Black-Faced Spoonbill, Whiskered Tern, Egrets, Bar-tailed Godwit, and dozens of shorebird species.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀? 🌏
🐛 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡: They consume massive quantities of insects during breeding phases, which prevents outbreaks that damage crops, forests, and natural vegetation.
🌱 𝙋𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙡: They support plant and fruit reproduction and spread seeds across vast distances, regenerating forests and maintaining genetic diversity in plant populations.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁? 🌏
Environmental threats like habitat loss, urban expansion, light pollution, and pesticides threaten their journeys. We can protect them by preserving natural habitats, reducing the use of pesticides, and promoting organic and sustainable farming.

Migratory birds are more than just travelers—they also contribute to our planet's health. 𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙟𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮. 🪶

The 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗮𝗦𝗦𝘁𝗦) joins the global celebration of World Mental Health Month 2026 under the theme: “𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝: 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞.” Today, October 10, we celebrate 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆. 🌿

As 𝗠𝗮𝗦𝗦𝘁𝗦 joins the 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙍𝙞𝙗𝙗𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, we chose kelp as our symbol of hope because of the life it sustains beneath the ocean's surface. Kelp forests provide shelter for countless marine organisms, creating an environment where different forms of life can thrive. In the same way, mental health advocacy reminds us of the importance of building communities where people feel safe enough to share their stories and know they will be met with understanding rather than judgment. 🪸

Kelp also offers a reminder that growth doesn't always happen in calm waters. Firmly anchored to the seafloor, it bends with the currents, while its gas-filled bladders help lift its blades toward the sunlight. It doesn't need to resist every wave to keep reaching upward. Perhaps we can learn from that, too. Life will have its difficult seasons, and we won't always feel strong, but we can give ourselves room to pause, adapt, and ask for help when we need it. Sometimes, moving forward simply means allowing ourselves the chance to try again. 🌊

𝑻𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘.
𝑲𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕.

So everyone, be kind. We never really know what someone else might be carrying. Give yourself the same understanding you'd offer someone else, and remember that none of us has to figure everything out alone. 🫂

Did you know that octopuses are basically the multitaskers, escape artists, and problem-solvers of the ocean? With eight arms, they can handle multiple tasks at once something every student wishes they could do during exam week! They are also incredibly intelligent, capable of learning, solving problems, and remembering solutions, just like students figuring out the best strategy to survive a difficult subject.💡

By changing their colors and patterns to blend into their surroundings, giving “adapt to your environment” a whole new meaning just like what being a first year college is “ADAPT”. With three hearts, they have more hearts than the average student has tabs open during finals week! And because they have no bones, they can squeeze through surprisingly small spaces, a proof that when an octopus says “I’ll find a way,” it really means it! They also have blue blood making them ocean royalty. 👑

This World Octopus Day, let’s appreciate these remarkable creatures and remember that the ocean is full of life worth learning about and protecting. Beyond their unique appearance, octopuses are admired for their remarkable intelligence, adaptability, and sentience. This day also reminds us of the challenges they face, including the growing concerns surrounding octopus farming, marine pollution, habitat degradation, and other threats to ocean life. 🌏
