Marana 1st is a progressive barangay in the eastern region in Ilagan City, Isabela. It is a semi-urban community. Beside the Marama Elementary School is a chapel of the Roman Catholic Church, a Barangay Hall, next is the ISELCO II Extension Office and the Rural Health Unit (RHU-II) Center. Near the school are di
fferent grocery stores, animal feeds, bakery and other sari-sari stores selling almost all what one can buy in the poblacion. Along the national highway is a “talipapa” selling meat, fish, and fresh vegetables and dry goods. The barangay has also private secondary school which is the Central Isabela Christian Academy operated by a religious organization. There are also furniture shops, rice mills and gasoline stations. Some people are engaged in small and large scale business. Residents are employed in private and government offices and these belong to the professionals. A subdivision can also be found in the barangay where families from other town and province settle. Most people are Ilocanos and Ibanags, although some migrated to the place from other places, they speak Tagalog in which everyone can understand. Different churches can also be found in the place where different religious sects go aside from the Roman Catholic Church. These are Jehovah’s Witness, Iglesia ni Cristo, Church of Christ, Baptist and others. There are more or else 600 families in the barangay and there are more or less voters including the youth sector.
