The ALAB Batch 6 One-day League Culminating Activity brought together more than 480 young Ilagueño athletes on August 25 at the Community Center, City of Ilagan. The event marked another milestone for ALAB (Ang Lakas ng Batang Ilagueño), the city’s flagship grassroots sports program designed to hone skills, enhance talents, and provide opportunities for aspiring athletes.
The program opened with a warm welcome message from City Vice Mayor Hon. Jay Eveson C. Diaz, who highlighted the city’s unwavering support for grassroots sports development. Adding inspiration to the event, Hon. Evyn Jay C. Diaz, Board Member of the 1st District of Isabela, served as the guest speaker, encouraging the athletes to use their talents as stepping stones toward bigger opportunities in life and in sports.
The culmination highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship and unity as participants from various sports disciplines gathered to compete, celebrate, and showcase their progress.
More than 480 young Ilagueño athletes came together, each one bringing their energy, talent, and determination to the games. From the fast rallies in badminton (60 players) and the disciplined moves of pencak silat (15), to the powerful swings in baseball and softball (50) and the speed of athletics (55), every sport showed the fire of youth in action. The courts and fields also came alive with arnis (20), taekwondo (30), lawn tennis (15), table tennis (40), swimming (12), volleyball (55), billiards (20), and the most participated event, football and futsal (110).
But more than just medals or points, ALAB is about giving young athletes a platform to dream big and grow. It is a program that molds skills, builds discipline, and opens doors to bigger opportunities. In fact, many of its alumni have already carried the Ilagueño pride to CAVRAA, Palarong Pambansa, and other major leagues. The culmination wasn’t just the end of a competition; it was a celebration of how far these young athletes have come and how bright their future can be.
The cheers, the camaraderie, and the determination seen on that day reflect what ALAB is truly about — igniting the fire within every Ilagueño youth to believe that with talent, hard work, and heart, nothing is impossible.
