On May 6โ8, 2026, selected students from the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) program took part in the Youth Forum on Heritage held in the Municipality of Nabas, Aklan. The activity aimed to deepen the studentsโ understanding of cultural preservation, heritage appreciation, and the vital role of youth in safeguarding local traditions.
Throughout the event, students attentively joined seminars and forums led by distinguished speaker Sir John Delan L. Robillos, covering topics on heritage conservation, cultural identity, and sustainable tourism, gaining meaningful insights. Additionally, renowned content creator and cycling advocate Mr. Lester โBujiโ Babiera shared insights on content creation and leveraging social media platforms. He encouraged the youth to raise awareness, value, safeguard, and champion our cultural heritage. We extend our deepest gratitude to the LGU of Nabas through the Nabas Tourism, Culture and the Arts Office headed by Sir Bryan Briones, to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and to the Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. for this wonderful initiative and guidance. They also did fieldwork across Nabasโ barangays, immersing in the community, interviewing locals, and experiencing firsthand the areaโs rich intangible heritageโfrom traditions and oral histories to local customs and knowledge.
This experience not only enriched their academic learning but also inspired them to become future advocates and stewards of cultural heritage, especially in the field of tourism. The activity perfectly aligned with their programโs goal of promoting responsible tourism that respects, preserves, and celebrates local culture and identity.
