Hyun Sook Yoon, the Chairwoman of International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) participated in the 9th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) held on March 14 in Cheongju, South Korea, and highlighted the need for free movement of civilians between North and South Korea and urged international society to support the peaceful unification of North and South Korea.
Chairwoman Yoon mentioned the 10 Articles 38 Clauses of the DPCW, declared on March 14, 2013, and explained, “Article 3 of the DPCW specifies that states should take appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace and are banned from taking any acts of aggression, proposing freedom of religion and peace culture as means to building sustainable world peace.”
HWPL, an international NGO registered in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is implementing a nationwide campaign called “Together: Connecting Korea” to connect and bring together different generations, eras, cultures, and people with the participation of 170 civil society organizations. Through this event, HWPL expanded sociocultural interaction between North and South Korea and announced the establishment of the Preparatory Committee for Peaceful Unification of the Korean Peninsula.”
