Kenneth Bacala Shares U.S. Fellowship Experience at HBONI Pagtililipon 2026
Participants of the Pagtililipon 2026 of the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) gained valuable global insights as Kenneth Bacala, a newly selected participant of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellows Program, shared his experience during his fellowship in the United States. The event was held in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on April 18, 2026.
Bacala, one of the 26 Filipinos chosen for the prestigious exchange program, spoke before youth volunteers gathered at the annual assembly. His presentation highlighted key learnings from his time in Missoula, Montana, particularly emphasizing the vital role of non-government organizations (NGOs) in fostering community development and nation-building.
Drawing from firsthand experience, Bacala described how NGOs in Missoula serve as strong pillars of support within communities. He noted that these organizations are deeply embedded in addressing social issues, ranging from education and public health to environmental sustainability. According to him, their impact is driven not only by structured programs but also by a culture of volunteerism and shared responsibility.
“One thing that stood out is how people truly value education, not just as a personal achievement, but as a collective investment,” Bacala shared. He explained that communities actively support learning initiatives, ensuring that opportunities are accessible and inclusive.
Bacala also underscored the importance of collaboration among organizations, institutions, and individuals. He observed that partnerships in Missoula are built on trust and a shared vision for progress, enabling more efficient and sustainable solutions to community challenges.
“The spirit of collaboration is very strong. People work together, not in silos, and that makes a huge difference,” he added.
His insights resonated with the participants, many of whom are actively engaged in grassroots initiatives across Negros Island. Hope Builders expressed appreciation for Bacala’s presentation, noting that such global perspectives are essential in strengthening local development efforts.
The Pagtililipon 2026 serves as a platform for reflection, knowledge-sharing, and alignment of goals among HBONI stakeholders. Bacala’s participation not only highlighted the opportunities available through international exchange programs like YSEALI but also reinforced the importance of applying global best no practices within local contexts.
As HBONI continues its mission to empower communities, Bacala’s experience stands as an inspiration for young leaders to engage, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
