𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐨 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠

On August 16, 2025, the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) PENRO Negros Occidental and CENRO Kabankalan City, the Barangay Local Government Unit of Salong, Kabankalan City, and the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Salong, successfully conducted the 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐨 at Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City.

The activity gathered more than 30 enthusiastic participants, composed of both youth and children from the community, who actively engaged in learning sessions and activities aimed at promoting environmental stewardship.

Representing the Punong Barangay was Hon. Julios Idquila, Barangay Kagawad, who warmly welcomed the participants and expressed his gratitude that Barangay Salong was chosen as the host site for this meaningful event. He emphasized the importance of empowering the youth to embrace environmental responsibility.

One of the highlights of the program was the ECOTalk on Waste Segregation, where the resource speaker, For. Lucia D. Salazar, Supervising Ecosystems Management Specialist of DENR-CENRO, shared salient points of Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000). The lecture deepened the participants’ understanding of proper waste management and inspired them to take simple but impactful actions in their daily lives.

Participants also enjoyed fun-filled and interactive activities such as ECO Habits Sharing and a Slogan-Making for the Environment, where they worked together to showcase creative and practical ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste.

The event concluded with by closing remarks delivered by the HBONI Area Coordinator, Gladys Gustilo, who extended her heartfelt gratitude to all the partners, the Barangay officials, and the youth participants for their support and active involvement.

Notably, this was the first activity officially hosted by the HBONI Area Council of Kabankalan City since they assumed office last May, marking the beginning of more impactful initiatives for the community.

Truly, small steps lead to big changes and through initiatives like ECOTuro, the youth of Barangay Salong are now encouraged to take small but meaningful steps toward a greener future.

Youth Power on Air: PYAP-Inawayan Backs HBONI’s One Green Movement

The Ka-Partner sa Eskwela program of the Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI), through its special segment One Green Movement Initiative, featured the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) – Inayawan Chapter as one of its partner organizations for this year’s environmental campaign.

On August 9, 2025, PYAP-Inayawan representatives Hanz Emerald Serrano, Spence Jay Andalicio, and Gerrix Arias guested at 100.5 CPSU Radyo Muscovado Sweet FM to share their experiences and advocacies in promoting environmental sustainability.

During the interview, the guests discussed their green initiatives implemented in their respective localities, such as community clean-up drives, tree planting, and waste segregation programs. They also highlighted pressing environmental issues in their area, including the rise of sea water during inclement weather and improper waste disposal.

The PYAP-Inayawan members underscored the importance of youth participation in environmental protection, encouraging their peers to take part in existing green projects or create their own initiatives. They stressed that even small, consistent actions can lead to significant positive change for the community and the planet.

Through the One Green Movement Initiative, HBONI continues to forge strong partnerships with youth organizations across Negros Island, bringing together young leaders in a united effort to create a greener and more sustainable future.

HBONI Ignites Environmental Action Through One Green Movement at Aguisan Elementary School

Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) successfully rolled out its environmental campaign, the One Green Movement Initiative, at Aguisan Elementary School, Himamaylan City, on August 4, 2025, reaching over 100 Grade 5 and 6 learners with the goal of building a culture of ecological responsibility and action.

Held under the theme, “One Movement for One Planet: Empowering Communities to Act, Grow, and Sustain a Healthier, Cleaner, and Greener Future,” the initiative featured the organization’s EcoTuro learning session, an interactive activity designed to educate young learners about pressing environmental issues through storytelling, games, and short discussions on solid waste management, tree planting, and the protection of natural resources.

In a message to the young participants, Principal II Mr. Romel C. Madera reminded them of their vital role in environmental protection.

“Ang inyo natun-an sini nga aga ma bitbit nyo ini pauli sa inyo mga panimalay kag buhaton inyo ini, kay kamo ang makabulig protekta sa aton kalikasan,” he said.

Kabankalan City Environment and Natural Resources Officr (CENRO) personnel Mrs. Lovern P. Gicana, who gave an engaging talk on Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act), emphasized the proper waste segregation and explained the possible diseases linked to poor waste disposal, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness and environmental discipline in communities.

The event’s success was made possible through the strong collaboration between HBONI and its partners: DENR-PENRO Negros Occidental, DENR-CENRO Kabankalan, Aguisan Elementary School, and the Neighborhood Parents Support Group (NPSG) Aguisan.

A dedicated team of 10 Hope Builders volunteers and 11 NPSG members played an active role in facilitating the EcoTuro activities, assisting learners in the various sessions, and ensuring the smooth and organized flow of the program. Their commitment reflected the spirit of bayanihan and grassroots action that the initiative hopes to inspire in communities.

The One Green Movement Initiative continues to pave the way for stronger environmental consciousness among youth and communities across Negros Island.

🎙️ E-skwela on Air Special Feature | August 1, 2025

In an episode aired live on 100.5 CPSU Radyo Muscovado Sweet FM, Hope Builders Organization Negros Island Inc. (HBONI) took the spotlight to promote the One Green Movement (OGM) Initiative.
Guests Gladys Gicos and Joshua Arias, both who are Hope Builders and part of OGM team, discussed the core objectives of the movement, which aims to empower young people in Negros Island to lead in tree-growing, sustainable practices, and climate action in their local communities.
The conversation, anchored by Andrelyn Bello, explored key programs under the initiative, including community partners for the activity implementation in Souther Negros that will help promote stewardship and ecological accountability among the youth.

Listeners were also encouraged to participate in the movement and take part in building a greener, more sustainable Negros. The episode not only amplified HBONI's mission but also call for a collective action in promoting encironmental education and youth leadership.
