‎For years, 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵. It was the destination beyond every fieldwork, forest camp, laboratory exercise, sleepless night, and challenge that tested our resolve. We believed that once we arrived here, the climb would finally be complete.

𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹 emerged as one of the most distinguished graduates of the Class of 2026, earning the rank of 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗮 𝗖𝘂𝗺 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 alongside the prestigious awards for 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 and 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 during the 56th Commencement Exercises.

‎More than academic excellence, Portugal's success reflects years of perseverance, sacrifice, and resilience as a working student who navigated financial hardships while maintaining outstanding academic performance, serving in various organizations, and representing the university in national competitions and summits.

‎As the student commencement speaker, Portugal delivered a message that became one of the defining moments of the 56th Commencement Exercises. Drawing from her own experiences as a working student and the realities faced by many Filipino learners, she reflected on a realization that resonated deeply with graduates, faculty members, and families alike:

Among them were our dear Ka-treeBU from the Department of Forestry, draped in their alampays and carrying with them the lessons, sacrifices, and triumphs of their journey, they proudly marched during the 56th Commencement Exercises on June 17, 2026. More than a ceremonial walk across the stage, the occasion marked the culmination of years of learning, growth, and unwavering commitment to their chosen field.

‎Adding inspiration to the celebration was the message delivered by 𝗞𝘆𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗙. ‎Ngayong ating ginugunita ang kagitingan, sakripisyo, at pagmamahal sa bayan ng mga bayaning nagbigay-daan sa kalayaang tinatamasa natin ngayon, nawa’y hindi lamang tayo magbalik-tanaw sa ating kasaysayan kundi magnilay rin sa kahalagahan ng kalayaan sa kasalukuyang panahon.

‎Sa gitna ng mga hamong kinakaharap ng bansa—mula sa kahirapan, kawalan ng pagkakapantay-pantay, mga suliraning pangkapaligiran, at iba pang usaping panlipunan, ang kalayaan ay nananatiling mahalagang sandigan upang maipahayag ang ating mga saloobin, makilahok sa paghubog ng mga solusyon, at sama-samang itaguyod ang kapakanan ng sambayanan. Ang tunay na diwa ng kalayaan ay hindi lamang nasusukat sa pagiging malaya ng isang bansa, kundi sa kakayahan ng bawat mamamayan na maging bahagi ng positibong pagbabago.

‎Higit sa isang pagdiriwang, ang Araw ng Kalayaan ay paalala na ang kinabukasan ng bansa ay nakasalalay sa ating pagkakaisa, pananagutan, at malasakit sa kapwa. Tulad ng mga binhing itinanim ng ating mga bayani noon, nawa’y patuloy nating palaguin ang kanilang pamana sa pamamagitan ng mga gawaing nagtataguyod ng katarungan, kaunlaran, at pag-asa para sa susunod na henerasyon.

In celebration of World Environment Day this June 5, the 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒐 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 – 𝑩𝒊𝒄𝒐𝒍 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚 proudly joins the global movement in promoting environmental protection, sustainability, and collective action for a healthier planet.

Our environment provides us with the resources necessary for life—clean air, water, food, and shelter. However, increasing environmental challenges such as deforestation, pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss continue to threaten the balance of our ecosystems. These issues remind us that caring for the environment is not only a responsibility but a necessity.

As 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀, we play a vital role in protecting and conserving our natural resources. Through sustainable forest management, environmental education, research, and community engagement, we can contribute to building a greener and more resilient future for all.

This 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒚, let us be reminded that every action matters. Whether by planting trees, reducing waste, conserving energy, or advocating for environmental awareness, each step brings us closer to a more sustainable world.
