𝟲𝟮𝗜𝗕 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗜𝗧𝗗𝗦)

The 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion conducted an Information, Education, and Awareness Campaign (IEAC) to the barangay functionaries composed of councils, committees and People’s Organization (PO’s) led by the Punong Barangay in Barangay Mckinley, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Captain Angelo Michael D Cata-an (INF) PA, Civil-Military Operations Officer of 62IB, highlighted the relationship between the military and stakeholders in building peace and development through the Integrated Territorial Defense System (ITDS), and stressed the importance of raising community awareness about insurgency resurgence as well as protecting our sovereign rights.

This initiative is part of the Philippine Army’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public understanding of national sovereignty and encourage community participation in defending the country’s territorial rights. Through proactive engagements, the 62IB continues to empower and enhance local stakeholders, foster unity, and support the nation’s territorial defense.

“Our mission goes beyond security. It includes compassion, service, and helping our people rise after every storm.”

The Youth for Peace Movement Guihulngan City and Canlaon City Chapter together with 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion, 3ID, Philippine Army extended support to the residents affected by Typhoon “Tino” in Barangays Bayog and Lumapao, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.
The activity was led by Mr. Roldan O. Ramas, President of YFPM Guihulngan City Chapter, together with Ms. Biana Lee C. Dequiso, Vice President of YFPM Canlaon City Chapter. A total of 72 families, composed of 237 individuals, received assistance through the initiative.

This effort highlights, the enduring partnership between the Philippine Army and local youth organizations, working hand in hand to extend timely aid and heartfelt support to families affected by the typhoon. It strengthens the spirit of community solidarity and inspires the youth to take an active role in humanitarian service, nurturing unity, compassion, and responsible civic engagement in moments of great need.

The Joint Disaster Response Teams (DRTs) of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, composed of the 11th Infantry Battalion, 47th Infantry Battalion, and 62nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, have joined forces to carry out intensified humanitarian efforts in response to the aftermath of Typhoon "Tino" in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental. This response underscores the Philippine Army’s vital role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations, ensuring the protection and welfare of affected communities.

A recent encounter between the 62nd Infantry Battalion under the 302nd Infantry Brigade and members of the CPP-NPA Terrorists (C**s) in Sitio Matal-i, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on October 28, 2025, has resulted in the tragic death of a 6-year-old boy.

𝗖𝗣𝗣-𝗡𝗣𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 (𝗖𝗡𝗧𝘀) 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹

A recent encounter between the 62nd Infantry Battalion under the 302nd Infantry Brigade and members of the CPP-NPA Terrorists (C**s) in Sitio Matal-i, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on October 28, 2025, has resulted in the tragic death of a 6-year-old boy.

Following reports from residents concerning extortion activities by CNT members, who were demanding food and supplies from the community, the soldiers were deployed to secure and ensure the safety of the populace and verify the situation.

According to BGen Jason V. Jumawan PA, Commander of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, while in the area, the troops were attacked by members of the CNT. "The soldiers were compelled to defend themselves while remaining mindful of the civilians nearby. Their primary intent was to push the terrorists away from the populace and secure the community ."

BGen Jumawan emphasized the CNT's disregard for civilian safety, stating, "Since the CPP-NPA Terrorist members were in the area to extort from the residents, they were fully aware that the place was populated with innocent civilians. Yet, without hesitation or regard for civilian safety, they attacked the soldiers, clearly showing their disrespect for human life and disregard for the welfare of the people they exploit."

"We strongly condemn this inhumane and barbaric act of the CPP-NPA-NDF by attacking our troops in a populated area that endangered civilian lives." BGen Jumawan underscored.

An armed encounter transpired while the troops of the 62nd Infantry Battalion under the 302nd Achiever Brigade were deployed
in Sitio Matal-i, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on October 28, 2025, prompted by reports and complaints from residents about the extortion activities of CPP-NPA members, who were demanding food and supplies from the community.

Acting on this information, the soldiers immediately responded to secure the safety of the populace and verify the situation. While in the area, the troops were attacked by members of the CPP-NPA.

Following the encounter, soldiers recovered empty catridges of M16 rifles (Armalite) and 40mm (M203), food stuffs and personal belongings from the terrorist NPAs' position at the encounter site.

In light of the encounter, Brigadier Jason V. Jumawan PA, Commander, 302nd Infantry Brigade, urged members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) to abandon armed struggle and embrace peaceful means of achieving their goals. "To those still involved with the CTG, I encourage you to lay down your arms, return to your families, and work with us to build a peaceful and prosperous Negros Island. The government is ready to assist you in reintegrating into mainstream society."

In line with the continuing commitment of the Philippine Army’s to safeguarding the country’s sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea, the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion, successfully conducted an Information, Education, and Awareness Communication (IEAC) Campaign to the Fisherfolks of Mckinley Fishermen’s Association on 06 October 2025 in Barangay Mckinley, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental

The activity highlighted the government’s continuing efforts to uphold sustainable peace and national security. This initiative was made possible through the support of Mr. Nicasio B. Bandic, President of Mckinley Fishermen’s Association along with its fishermen members.

During the discussion, Sergeant Rogyn Laurino (Inf) PA, Emergency Response Team Personnel and Cpl Christine O Daso (Inf) PA, Public Affairs Non-commissioned Officer of 62IB emphasized the crucial role of fisherfolks in Integrated Territorial Defense System (ITDS) of our Philippine Sea and promoting awareness on the West Philippine Sea issue and the importance of government transparency in addressing territorial disputes and rights of the Filipino people over Philippine territory and the need for collective national awareness.

Meanwhile, the 62IB remains steadfast in its mission to empower communities through proactive information campaigns. By strengthening the fisherfolks association as the first line of defense, the unit aims to counter insurgency, foster unity, and inspire citizens to be active contributors to peace and progress.

The 62nd Infantry (UNIFIER) Battalion, 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, Philippine Army, under the leadership of LTC EVELIO C ILANGA III INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, in collaboration with the 302nd Infantry (ACHIEVER) Brigade, 3ID, PA led by BGEN JASON V JUMAWAN PA, Commander, and the 47th Infantry (KATAPATAN) Battalion, 3ID, PA under the command of LTC DENNIS S MARTINEZ INF (GSC) PA, successfully conducted a Security Forum on Critical Infrastructure Investment Protection and Security Operations (CIIPSO) at La Limar Resort, La Libertad, Negros Oriental on 12 September 2025.

The activity was graced by the presence of Hon. Jessica Jane J. Villanueva, Board Member, 1st District of Negros Oriental, together with PMAJ ELPIDIO R. TAGO-AN of NOPPO, FCINSP MARLON K. CHOMLING of BFP Negros Oriental, Provincial, City, and Municipal Engineers, as well as contractors and sub-contractors from the 1st District of Negros Oriental. An open forum was facilitated by CPT ANGELO MICHAEL D CATA-AN (INF) PA, CMO Officer, while BGEN JUMAWAN, Commander of 302IBde, delivered a message emphasizing the importance of unified efforts in safeguarding vital government projects.

The forum primarily aimed to strengthen inter-agency coordination to ensure the protection of ongoing government infrastructure projects against possible threats from Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs). This initiative seeks to guarantee the unhampered implementation of programs such as farm-to-market roads and other development projects, thereby fostering peace, progress, and sustainable development in the communities of Negros Oriental.

Brigadier General Jason V. Jumawan, Commander of the 302nd Infantry (Achiever) Brigade, Philippine Army, made his first official visit to the 62nd Infantry “Unifier” Battalion at Camp Tirambulo, Barangay McKinley, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, on 01 September 2025. He was warmly received by LTC EVELIO C ILANGA III INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, together with Battalion Staff, Company Commanders, the Battalion Sergeant Major, and representatives from attached Operational Control (OpCon) units.

The troops of the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion, under the leadership of LTC EVELIO C ILANGA III INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, rendered final military honors and paid their last respects during the interment of the late Private First Class Julian R. Oracion Jr. at Mambaid Memorial Park, Jimalalud, Negros Oriental, today, August 23, 2025.
