CSUG brings CHMG-LUTO Extension Program to Piat, Cagayan

The faculty of the College of Hospitality Management of Cagayan State University-Gonzaga Campus extended its reach to the Mabuhay Agri-Crop Multipurpose Cooperative (MAMC) of Barangay Warat, Piat, Cagayan on October 30, 2025.

Guided by the objectives of the CHM G-LUTO program, Prof. Jaenezxey Jean Seguirre and Dr. Jeffrey V. Obedoza shared their expertise in Proper Food Handling and Good Manufacturing Practices to the members of the said cooperative.

In the event, it was emphasized that the barangay has a lot of agricultural products that could provide business opportunities to the community, and with the coop members' effort to innovate products, follow proper procedures in product preparation and handling, sustainability could prosper.

"The CSU-Gonzaga, with the leadership of our CEO, Dr. Froilan A. Pacris Jr., is always here to help your community in attaining the goals of your cooperative. However, those goals are only met if we act on them, so we might as well be determined to initiate cooperation among our community," Dr. Agluba, the College Extension Coordinator said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Beverly Mae Ocab and Prof. Rhea Divina Yagin taught and led the coop members in making Skinless Longganisa and Pork Tocino.

The extension activity was organized by the CHM with the initiative of College Extension Coordinator Dr. Khayle G. Agluba, leadership of the college dean Dr. Shiena Marie R. Gaño, and the support of CSU-G CEO Dr. Froilan A. Pacris Jr.

Fun Food Facts!

Food Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility. Foodborne illness is a real concern—even at home. Whether you're preparing meals for family or catering for hundreds, safe food handling is non-negotiable.

Follow these 4 essential steps to protect consumers:
🧼 CLEAN – Wash hands, tools, and surfaces regularly
🔀 SEPARATE – Keep raw meats away from ready-to-eat food
🔥 COOK – Use a food thermometer to ensure proper cooking
❄️ CHILL – Refrigerate perishables within 2 hours

Let’s raise the standard of food safety across every kitchen in the Philippines.
