Last Sunday, we discussed the Kindness of God, that it is His kindness that leads us to true repentance. When we truly understand how kind God has been to us, repentance does not have to be forced; it becomes a natural response of the heart.
But why is it that some of us still struggle to be truly free? The truth is simple yet difficult to accept: we cannot be free from the sins that we still love.
So what does genuine, biblical remorse actually look like?
1. It shifts the focus from “I broke a rule” to “I hurt a relationship.”
2. It awakens realization that the path we were on—lying, bullying, cheating—is no longer a path we want to walk in.
3. It humbly admits, “I messed up, and I accept the consequences because I value truth more than my comfort.”
4. It leads to honesty and relief, not a braggy “alam ko na ang ginagawa ko” attitude.
5. It asks, “How can I make things right?” rather than “Who is right?”
Another clear sign of remorse is “hindi na pagsasawsaw sa dating putik.”
Real repentance chooses distance from the very things that caused the fall. It could mean cutting communication with someone for a time, stepping away from places that trigger compromise, or creating distance from people or environments where we previously stumbled.
And let’s be honest—ministry should never be used as a cover. Sometimes, even among our kabataan, ministry becomes a way to hide what is really happening in the heart. But service to God is never meant to mask sin; it should flow from a heart that is being transformed by Him.
One thing we must understand: all the kindness God gives us is not because of who we are or what we can do. It is because of who He is.
It is because God is holy. Banal ang Diyos. And because He is holy, seryosohin natin ito. Let His kindness lead us not just to emotion, but to real repentance and a life that honors Him.
Romans 2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
