A Beacon of Hope: Free Iftar at General Santos City Jail Female Dormitory
LOOK: With the Partnership of Australian Muslim Brothers and Sisters through Bro Saleem Habibullah and Prof. Macrina Adjirol facilitated by the Concern Muslim Individual(CMI) spearheaded by Ma'am Joybeth Macatimbol, we conducted a Free iftar and distribution of Hygiene kit sponsored by MSU Moro Students' Civic Organization (MSU-MSCO) at City Jail General Santos City.
"The charity of those who expend their wealth in the Way of Allah may be likened to a grain of corn, which produces seven ears and each ear yields a hundred grains. Likewise Allah develops manifold the charity of anyone He pleases, for He is All-Embracing, All-Wise." - Quran 2:261
In the bustling city of General Santos, as the sun sets and the day gives way to night, a unique gathering takes place within the walls of the city jail's female dormitory. Amidst the stark reality of confinement, an event unfolds that transcends the barriers of the prison, bringing a ray of hope and a sense of community. This event is the Iftar, the breaking of the daily Ramadan fast.
The Iftar at the city jail is not an ordinary meal; it is a symbol of compassion and unity, a beacon of hope in a place often associated with despair. The event is organized by generous volunteers who believe in the power of empathy and the spirit of Ramadan. They come bearing trays of food, but what they deliver is far more significant - they bring a message of solidarity and understanding.
Breaking their fast together, the inmate finds a moment of respite from their harsh reality. The act of sharing a meal, a universal symbol of camaraderie, allows them to momentarily forget their confines and feel a sense of belonging. The Iftar meal becomes a bridge, connecting them to the outside world, and reminding them that they are not forgotten.
