🐾 HELP US KEEP THE SANCTUARY GOING

We don't often ask for help.

As much as possible, we try to find ways to sustain Purpaws Animal Sanctuary ourselves. We have started small income-generating projects to help support the sanctuary, and we continue to use whatever resources we can provide.

But we also have to be honest.

Our small projects do not provide regular income, while the needs of the animals under our care continue every single day.

Running a sanctuary is not only about filling their bowls.

There is food for our dogs and cats, but there is also rent, electricity, water, caretaker and staff salaries, medicines, vitamins, veterinary needs, cleaning and sanitation supplies, repairs, maintenance, and many other everyday expenses needed to keep their home running.

Right now, we are having a difficult time keeping up with these operational expenses.

We have already stopped accepting new rescues for the meantime because we know that our first responsibility is to the animals who are already here. They depend on us for their food, shelter, safety and care every day.

And so, this time, we are humbly reaching out for help. 🤍

If you are able to share dog or cat food, rice, medicines, cleaning supplies, or help us with any of our shelter's operational expenses, we would be deeply grateful.

No amount is too small. Every contribution becomes part of a meal, a water or electricity bill, medicine for an animal who needs it, or another day that we are able to keep their home safe and running.

If you are unable to donate, simply sharing this post may help us reach someone who can.

We will continue doing our part. We just need a few more hands to help us carry the load right now.

LOST & FOUND DOG — NOW SAFE 🐾❤️

This dog was earlier reported roaming in the area. Ms. Jovie Ann Delizo Matanguihan personally went to check on the dog and tried to secure her, but understandably had difficulty handling the rescue alone.

Jovie then reached out to us and asked if we could assist.

Although PURPAWS Animal Sanctuary is no longer accepting new rescue cases, there are situations when we can still extend assistance when someone from the community is already willing to step forward and take responsibility.

We came to help secure the dog, and thankfully, she is now safe. 🙏

Jovie has generously offered to foster her temporarily while we try to locate her family.

We are now looking for the owner. If you recognize this dog or know where she may have come from, please send us a message. Proof of ownership will be required before she is released.

Thank you, Jovie, for not simply passing by and for taking the initiative to help. ❤️

This is the kind of animal welfare we believe in community members helping, rescuers assisting where they can, and everyone doing their part for the animal.

We may have stopped taking in new rescues, but when we can help without compromising the animals already under our care, we will always try.

For now, one dog is off the streets and safe tonight. 🐾

🐾 ANIMAL CRUELTY: KNOW WHAT TO DO

This post is shared purely for education and awareness. It is not a commentary on any particular person, organization, or ongoing case.

When your pet becomes a victim of suspected cruelty, remember that you can take action.

Document what happened. Preserve photos and videos. Keep veterinary records when applicable. Identify witnesses. Take note of the date, time, place and circumstances of the incident, and report the matter to the proper authorities.

You do not have to wait for an animal welfare organization before taking the proper steps yourself.

Animal welfare organizations and advocates can certainly help guide, assist and support complainants, especially those who don't know where to begin. I am also willing to guide pet owners when I can and point them toward the proper process.

But there is one principle I personally follow:

I am very careful about publicly discussing sensitive cases while the facts are still being established or an investigation is ongoing.

This is not because I don't care.

For me, it is part of responsible advocacy.

Social media is a powerful tool. There are situations when posting is necessary to locate witnesses, seek urgent assistance, identify an animal or person involved, or create public awareness.

But not every case needs to be tried on social media while an investigation is still ongoing.

Sometimes, the most important work happens quietly:

Document.
Preserve the evidence.
Report.
Cooperate.
Follow through.

When sufficient facts have been established or there is meaningful progress in an investigation, then the experience can be shared responsibly not to sensationalize what happened, but to educate other pet owners, raise awareness about animal cruelty, and hopefully prevent another animal from becoming a victim.

If you are facing an animal cruelty incident and don't know where to begin, I may not be able to personally handle the case for you, but I can help guide you on the proper steps to take.

Advocacy doesn't always have to be loud to be meaningful.

Sometimes helping simply means showing someone what to do next.

Protect the animal.
Preserve the evidence.
Pursue proper action.
And when the time is right, use the experience to educate others. 🐾

🐾❤️ A LITTLE PROJECT WITH A BIGGER PURPOSE

We are happy to introduce the Happy Paws Coloring Book — COLOR WITH A CAUSE.

This project was created from a simple belief: kindness toward animals can be taught while children are still young.

Through 20 meaningful coloring pages, children are introduced to compassion, responsible pet ownership, proper animal care, adoption, respect for animals, and speaking up against cruelty.

And every copy carries another purpose close to our hearts. A portion of the proceeds will help support the rescued animals under our care at Purpaws Animal Sanctuary. 🐶🐱

🆘 URGENT: NURSING MAMA CAT NEEDED 🐱🙏

These little kittens need our help.

Their mother has disappeared, leaving these babies without the care and milk they still need. At their young age, they require special attention, warmth, proper feeding, and ideally a nursing mama cat who can accept them as foster babies. 🥺

Unfortunately, we currently do not have a nursing cat available who can foster them.
We are appealing to anyone in General Santos City who has a mama cat currently nursing kittens and may be able to accommodate these little ones. Even temporary help could make a huge difference in their chance of survival.

IMPORTANT: Wala pong suot na collar si Philly noong siya ay nawala. The blue collar shown in the photo is only from an earlier picture.

Baka may nakakita, nakapagpakain, or pansamantalang kumupkop sa kanya. Please, please help us bring Philly home. 🙏🐾

This is what “quiet” looks like at the sanctuary. 🐾🤍

We may have stopped accepting new rescues, but we never stopped caring for the ones already here.

Every day, the routine continues preparing their food, filling their bowls, cleaning their spaces, attending to their needs, and making sure they are safe.

Hindi man palaging nakikita o napo-post, tuloy ang trabaho. These lives are still our responsibility, and that commitment remains.

We chose to focus on the animals already entrusted to us and give them the care they deserve for the rest of their lives.

No new rescues for now. But the sanctuary is still here. The animals are still here. And so are we. 🐾

Quietly caring. Quietly continuing. ❤️

Run free, Tucker. 🐾🌈🤍

Some dogs we never meet personally still somehow find their way into our hearts. Tucker was one of them.

For eight beautiful years, he made millions of people smile with his funny expressions, adventures, and that unmistakable Golden Retriever personality. But beyond being an internet-famous dog, Tucker reminded us of something we animal lovers already know so well — animals become family, and the love they give us can change our lives.

Eight years feels far too short, but what a beautiful eight years they were. He was loved, cared for, celebrated, and able to bring happiness to people all over the world.

As someone who has loved, rescued, cared for, and also had to say goodbye to so many animals, news like this always hits differently. 💔 No matter how many times we experience loss, we never really learn how to make goodbye easier.
