🙏 A Call to Extend Hope and Urgent Call to Support-Jemma Banza Manggad 🙏

Meet Jemma, one of our charity beneficiaries through Hope Charity. She is currently undergoing dialysis treatments in Tabuk, Kalinga, Philippines and bravely fighting through her health journey. Recently, her situation has become even more urgent — she is now also suffering from blindness(one eye-can see it in her picture below), a condition she did not have before. This has made her daily battle much harder and her need for support even greater.

Jemma has written a heartfelt solicitation letter, asking for help. Any support — whether big or small — means so much in her battle. Even a single dollar counts, and how much more if we give from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️

Simple explanation -my personal experience will be post soon!

👉 Analogy:
Imagine your kidneys are like the filters in a fish tank.
• When they’re new, the water is clean and everything works smoothly.
• Over time, if you keep putting dirty food into the tank (like overfeeding the fish or adding polluted water), the filters get clogged and damaged.
• Once the filter material itself starts breaking down, you can’t repair it back to “new.” That’s what doctors mean when they say chronic kidney disease is irreversible — the damaged part of the filter is gone for good.

However…
• If you stop polluting the water (by giving the fish proper food and cleaning the tank regularly — i.e., healthy diet and lifestyle), you prevent the filter from clogging faster.
• You can’t restore the filter to brand new, but you can slow down the damage and sometimes even make the water a bit clearer than before.

So:
• Bad diet = more toxins and strain on the kidneys (clogging the filters).
• Healthy diet = less strain, more balance, slower progression.

✅ In short: CKD is like a worn-out filter — you can’t make it brand new again, but you can take care of it so it works as best as possible for as long as possible.

🍄 What it is
• Fungal ball (mycetoma): A clump of fungal material that collects in the maxillary sinus.
• Looks like brown/greenish/peanut-like clumps when removed.
• Usually non-invasive (it doesn’t spread to bone or other tissues).
• Causes: Fungus (like Aspergillus) grows in the sinus when it can’t drain well.
• Symptoms: Long-term nasal congestion, bad smell from nose, postnasal drip, sometimes facial pressure or pain.

🏥 Why surgery is needed
• Medications alone (like antifungals or antibiotics) don’t work because the fungus forms a solid clump.
• Surgery clears out the fungal ball and opens the sinus so it drains and doesn’t trap more fungus.

🔹 During Surgery (Modified Medial Maxillectomy with Navigation)
1. Surgeon makes a wide opening into the maxillary sinus through the nose.
2. The fungal ball is removed — often in chunks that can look like dried peanut shells or clay-like debris.
3. The sinus cavity is thoroughly cleaned out.
4. Navigation helps ensure all fungus is removed safely, especially near the eye and skull base.

✅ After Surgery — What to Expect
• Immediate relief: Many people feel sinus pressure and foul smell improve quickly.
• Mild bleeding & congestion: A few days is normal.
• Nasal rinses: Very important to keep the sinus clean while healing.
• No antifungal pills usually needed (since it’s non-invasive and surgery is curative).
• Follow-ups: Your doctor will scope the sinus at visits to be sure it stays open and clear.
