Filipino mothers are carrying a weight that society rarely sees and even more rarely acknowledges.
From sleepless nights and endless childcare tasks to the invisible emotional load they manage every single day, mothers are doing far more than what’s expected of any one person.

Our recent survey reveals the truth behind this silent struggle:
💥 76% experience high to extreme stress
💥 Mothers handle 65–80% of childcare duties
💥 7 out of 10 feel emotionally overwhelmed

These aren’t just numbers. These are the lived experiences of millions of Filipino mothers who are exhausted, unsupported, and expected to “just handle it.”

But caregiving shouldn’t fall on one parent alone.
Unequal parental leave reinforces an unequal home and mothers pay the price through stress, burnout, and long-term mental load.

Sa likod ng bawat bagong panganak ay isang inang nangangailangan ng pahinga, suporta, at kalinga. Ngunit dahil sa maikling paternal leave, kadalasan ay nag-iisa nilang hinaharap ang pisikal at emosyonal na pagsubok sa pag-aalaga ng sanggol.

Ang mga batas tulad ng RA 11210, RA 8187, RA 11861, at RA 9710 ay dapat magsilbing tunay na sandigan ng bawat pamilya hindi lamang sa papel, kundi sa aktuwal na karanasan.

Ipanawagan natin ang inklusibong parental leave dahil ang kalusugan ng ina ay kinabukasan ng bata.

Imagine a Philippines where mothers don’t cry from exhaustion at 3 AM because they’re caring for a newborn alone.

Where they don’t have to choose between healing their bodies and meeting their baby’s needs. Where fathers are given enough leave to stand beside them, not just visit after work.

Today, unequal parental leave forces countless moms to absorb nearly all early-childcare responsibilities. This imbalance harms their physical and emotional health and reinforces unfair expectations that ‘mothers should endure everything.’

A more equal future means giving mothers the support they desperately need, starting with giving fathers the time to share the load.

Mothers already endure so much, childbirth pain, hormonal changes, body recovery, anxiety, and constant pressure to ‘do everything.'

But with only 7 days of paternity leave, many Filipino moms are forced to care for a newborn alone while still healing from stitches, surgery, or trauma. The emotional burden becomes heavier, the physical pain lasts longer, and burnout becomes a daily reality.

When fathers are not given enough leave, mothers pay the price: lack of sleep, delayed healing, postpartum stress, and the feeling of being unsupported and invisible.

Extended paternal leave matters because no mother should suffer in silence or sacrifice her well-being just because the system expects her to carry everything.

Behind every childbirth is a mother who is expected to recover, endure, and care all at the same time.

Yet with unequal parental leave, she is often left carrying the full weight of sleepless nights, physical pain, emotional stress, and endless caregiving tasks alone. Many mothers return home from the hospital already exhausted… and then start an even harder journey without support.

Extended paternal leave is not just ‘extra time for dads’, it’s relief for mothers who are overwhelmed, healing, and often unheard. When fathers are given real time at home, mothers finally get the chance to rest, breathe, and recover properly.

Shared caregiving reduces the crushing load mothers carry every day. It protects their health, their emotional well-being, and their dignity.

Let’s advocate for leave policies that stop treating mothers as the only caregivers.
