Saint Charbel Makhlouf (1828–1898) was a Lebanese Maronite monk and hermit renowned for the extraordinary number of physical and spiritual healings attributed to his intercession. Miracles linked to his relics, prayers, and blessed oil range from curing terminal cancers to restoring sight and healing sudden paralysis.
The following notable, widely recorded healings illustrate the phenomenon of his intercessions:
Nohad El Shami (1993): Perhaps his most famous miracle. A 55-year-old partially paralyzed mother experienced a dream in which Saint Charbel performed surgery on her neck. Upon waking, she found two fresh surgical wounds and her paralysis was completely gone.
Racha Charbel (2026): A Lebanese woman scheduled for spinal surgery for a tumor avoided the procedure after praying to Saint Charbel. An MRI the next day showed the tumor had vanished with no medical explanation.
Sister Mary Abel Kamari (1950): A nun bedridden and declared incurable for 14 years was instantaneously healed after a night of prayer at the saint's grave.
Dafne Gutierrez (2016): A 30-year-old mother from Phoenix, Arizona, who had been declared legally blind, had her vision fully restored after being blessed with a relic of Saint Charbel.
