June 2 is ! ☀️

This day is dedicated to spreading awareness on the impacts of extreme heat particularly to the most vulnerable members of the community. With this year's focus on “Indoor Heat,” the Philippine Red Cross continuously warns that extreme heat is a ‘silent emergency’ with real impacts on health, livelihoods, and communities.

Recognizing extreme heat as a health risk and equipping communities with preparedness is key to saving lives. The Philippine Red Cross remains committed to being Always First, Always Ready, and Always There.

𝘎𝘓𝘖𝘉𝘈𝘓 𝘏𝘌𝘈𝘛 𝘈𝘊𝘛𝘐𝘖𝘕 𝘋𝘈𝘠: 𝘉𝘌𝘈𝘛 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘏𝘌𝘈𝘛, 𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘠 𝘚𝘈𝘍𝘌!

Even as the monsoon season approaches, the threat of extreme heat remains very real. The rainy season does not always bring relief—high humidity and poorly ventilated indoor spaces can still create dangerous conditions for our health.

“Safety chooses no season. In the midst of extreme heat or high humidity, preparedness is our most effective shield to protect the health of every Filipino.” - Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon

Don't let heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or dehydration catch you off guard! Follow these vital preparedness tips to keep you and your family safe before and during extreme heat:

𝘋𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 – Stay hydrated throughout the day.
𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘒𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘭 – Maximize airflow and shade.
𝘈𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘥 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘋𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘵 – Keep heavy exertion to cooler hours.
𝘞𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 – Help your body regulate its temperature.

Let’s look out for one another. Share this post to spread awareness, and remember that through any climate challenge, the Philippine Red Cross is Always First, Always Ready, Always There.

Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

Across the world, volunteers and staff from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement show up every day for people in crisis, responding in their own communities, helping neighbours, supporting families, and standing on the frontlines of emergencies that affect them too.

Because beyond every emergency, every response, and every emblem, there is one truth: we are United in Humanity.

PRC JOINS IFRC, ICRC, AND 191 NATIONAL SOCIETIES IN CELEBRATING WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY 2026

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, 2026, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance follows the theme “United in Humanity,” meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also serves as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.

“The Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.

Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the world’s largest humanitarian network.

“The Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,” PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang stated.

The PRC commits its adherence to this year’s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.

A simple social media post became a powerful call for help, and one generous donor answered without hesitation.

After seeing a Facebook appeal shared by a mother whose 𝟳-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 in Quezon City and urgently in need of 𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀, a volunteer donor immediately came to the Philippine Red Cross - Negros Oriental Chapter to donate blood and help support the child’s treatment.

Recognizing the urgency of the request, the PRC promptly facilitated the necessary donor process and coordinated the safe preparation, handling, and transport of the required blood product. Through proper coordination and strict adherence to blood safety protocols, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭.

This story is a reminder that behind every blood request is a real person, a real family, and a real fight for life. In moments like these, the kindness of a stranger can become a source of hope for someone miles away.

The Philippine Red Cross continues to encourage all eligible individuals to become regular voluntary blood donors. You never know when your donation may become the lifeline someone is urgently waiting for.
