Blood is freely and voluntarily donated by generous blood donors. But before a donated unit can safely reach a patient, it goes through several important steps including collection, blood component preparation, proper storage, quality checks, and laboratory testing.

The Philippine Red Cross is not a government agency and does not receive government funding. Blood services are sustained through donations and the fees that help cover the actual costs of safely preparing blood for transfusion.

19/08/2026

Today, we honor the unwavering spirit of compassion, resilience, and service that drives our volunteers, staff, and partners on the ground.

As seen in the image, the heart of the Philippine Red Cross beats loudest through actionโ€”from relief distributions and medical missions to community health responses and logistical support in times of crisis. Wherever help is needed, our people are on the front lines, embodying our enduring commitment to be Always First, Always Ready, Always There.

As Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon emphasizes, "Volunteers serve as the organization's backbone and ensure that whatever the community is living throughโ€”a natural disaster, a health crisis, a conflictโ€”we will continue to be the lifeline of the people". Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang echoes this sentiment, reminding us that "the movement has always been built on ordinary people" who dedicate themselves to service.

Join us in celebrating the everyday heroes who choose humanity, solidarity, and hope above all else.
