10/16/2026. Thanks to the energy of volunteers from SU FM, NORSU LTS, NORSU Pychology, Focolare Movement of Dumaguete, Kinaiyahan, and DIARS. We were able to transfer established piapi (aka bungalon) for hardening as well as repot over 500 saplings of the same species in the nursery.

Piapi is one of the two scientifically favored species for mangrove planting at exposed site due to its resilience. Since it is a slow growing tree, it needs over a year of prepping in the nursery before it can be planted on site.

10/16/2026. Over 500 bakhaw planted today in the landward part of our experimental planting site. Shout to the volunteers from Focolare Movement of Dumaguete, Kinaiyahan, FENOr, NORSU LTS, DIARS, NORSU Psychology and SU FM! Thank you for showing that you care.

10/10/2026. We were supposed to add more domes to our breakwater today. Instead, we welcomed the members and advisors of YES-O of RTPM DSHS and the LST students from NORSU to the reef dome workshop and to the experimental site of the Mangrove Island Project. 11 domes were fabricated!

Grateful also for the presence of representatives from Rural Bank of Bacong, DIARS and Aces Guardian Security Agency.

At the sideline, we have pre-positioned 53 reef domes for the breakwater installation in the coming weekends.

10/03/2026. On this day, with volunteers from Bata ng Calabnugan, Dysr-fm Dumaguete, DIARS, and Aces Guardian Security and other private individuals, we continued to install reef domes in breakwater formation as well as add over 20 mangrove guards in the planting area.

Our breakwater is now nearly 40 meters long. Yeheey!
