Hey there, Sillimanians!

Hey Sillimanians! 🫢🏻

Let’s rally as one to support our fellow Sillimanian, Ashanti Teves, in her time of need. Read the full details below to learn how you can help and contributeβ€”every act of kindness counts!

Together, we uplift each other. Thank you!

We are reaching out to our community to support one of our own. On March 30, Ashanti Teves was involved in a severe motorbike accident in Sibulan due to brake failure. She is currently admitted to Negros Polymedics Hospital and is facing a long road to recovery, including necessary surgeries for the injuries she sustained.

The League of Practice Teachers is knocking on your hearts to help ease the financial burden on Ashanti’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

You can help by:

Donating:
Scan the GCash QR code below to send your contribution directly to her family. Any amount will be a great help.

Sharing:
Please share this post to help us reach more friends and colleagues.

Praying:
We ask for your continued prayers for Ashanti’s strength and for a swift, full recovery.

In accordance with the family’s wishes and out of respect for Ashanti’s privacy, we will not be sharing her photo at this time. We thank you for your compassion, understanding, and generosity.

SUSG STATEMENT ON BOT INVITATION TO COMMITTEE MEETINGS

The Silliman University Student Government (SUSG) expresses its appreciation to the Silliman University Board of Trustees (BOT) for hearing, seeing, and valuaing student representation through the formal invitation extended to SUSG to participate as a resource person in relevant BOT committee meetings.

This gesture underscores the BOT's recognition of the vital role student voices play in shaping policies and initiatives that impact the University community. Additionally, this arrangement aligns with SUSG's mandate to advocate for the welfare and development of Silliman students.

As student representatives, we will be gathering the most pressing student concerns and ensuring these grievances are communicated to the committee meetings. We are eager to engage constructively, fostering meaningful dialogue that advances our shared vision for a vibrant and inclusive Silliman University.

The Silliman University Student Government (SUSG), through SUSG Judiciary, serves in an ex-officio capacity in the University Disciplinary Board (UDB). In this role, the Prime Justice actively participates in the Board’s proceedings and assists in the careful drafting of its decisions, ensuring that they are well-reasoned, clear, and consistent with University rules and principles of due process.

During the months of November and December, the UDB conducted a series of hearings and deliberations concerning a case of sexual harassment. After careful evaluation of the evidence and observance of due process, the Board rendered its decision and imposed the appropriate penalties in accordance with University rules and regulations.

In January, the Board likewise heard a case involving verbal abuse committed by a student against a University staff member. Following proper proceedings and deliberation, the corresponding sanctions were imposed.

Given the sensitive nature of these cases and the confidential information involved, the full text of the decisions cannot be publicly disclosed. Nonetheless, the outcomes affirm the University’s commitment to accountability, respect, and the maintenance of a safe academic environment.

These cases serve as a reminder that justice is upheld within the institutionβ€”firmly, fairly, and with due regard for the rights and dignity of all parties concerned.

Last December 7, 2025, Governor Kyle Bernaldez Deluvio of the Institute of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ICLS) addresses concerns over MedTech students continuing to use the Ethel Chapman Building despite its unsafe and unsuitable condition, due to the lack of alternative spaces, and urges the University President and Board of Trustees to implement a concrete, long-term solution to ensure the safety of students and faculty.

Supported by ICLS Representative Sophia Franz Calumpang through a privilege speech on behalf of all Sillimanian students, emphasizing the need for a quality learning environment for students and faculty, and calling on concerned offices to present a clear, long-term plan for secure and appropriate learning facilities.

To address this issue, the SUSG Student Assembly sent a letter (attached in the comment section of this post) directed to the President, Dr. Betty Cernol McCann to express their solidarity for the Institute of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and their urgent concerns over the state of the Ethel Chapman building.

A resolution has been passed asking the Board of Trustees to be more transparent about the decision-making for the selection of the Silliman University President. The resolution also encourages student representation in the decision making process by having the SUSG President as a representative of the student body.

The proponents Rep. Amante (GRAD), Rep. Estolloso (CBA), Rep. Ozoa (CBA), Rep. Teves (CAS), Rep. Jamera (CAS), and Rep. Villaflores (CBA) emphasized that this is a first step toward student representation, recognizing that students are key stakeholders who deserve to be informed and part of discussions that affect their education and future.
