Apo Island Protected Landscape and Seascape This is the official page of Apo Island Protected Landscape and Seascape. It has become a popular dive site and snorkeling destination with tourists.

Apo Island is a volcanic island covering 74 hectares in land area, 7 kilometers off the southeastern tip of Negros Island and 30 kilometers south of the Negros Oriental capital of Dumaguete in the Philippines. The name "Apo" means "elder" or "respected ancestor" in the Visayan languages. The marine habitat around the island is a marine reserve, protected by the National Integrated Protected Area A

ct and under the jurisdiction of the Protected Area Management Board. There are two resorts on Apo Island, each with a dive center: Apo Island Beach Resort and Liberty's Lodge. There is also a ranger station and a lighthouse.

The 2nd Quarter Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) Meeting of Apo Island Protected Lanscape and Seascape was successfully conducted on June 5, 2026, attended by the members of the Protected Area Management Board together with DENR–NIR Regional Executive Director Charlie E. Fabre, Assistant Regional Director Viernov Grefalde, and PENRO Jimmy A. Panebio.

The meeting served as a venue for meaningful discussions, collaborative planning, and strengthened commitment toward the protection, conservation, and sustainable management of our protected areas. 🌿

The celebration commenced with a motorcade led by DENR–CENRO Dumaguete and DENR–PENRO Negros Oriental, bringing together advocates and partners in a shared commitment to protect and preserve our natural environment. Anchored on this year’s theme, "Our Environment, Our Future," the activity highlighted the importance of collective action in building a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.

An ocular inspection was successfully conducted at Apo Island, Dauin, Negros Oriental with the presence of Governor Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria, Congresswoman Janice Degamo, Dauin Acting Mayor Alvin Truita, Apo Island Brgy. Captain Mario Pascobello, DENR Regional Executive Director Charlie Fabre, and PENRO Jimmy Panebio.

The visit highlights the shared commitment of the provincial government and DENR in ensuring the continued protection, sustainable management, and conservation of Apo Island’s rich marine biodiversity and natural resources. Through collaborative efforts and strengthened partnerships, we continue to work towards preserving Apo Island as one of Negros Oriental’s treasured marine protected areas for future generations.

This is to formally inform all boat operators operating within the jurisdiction of the Apo Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (AIPLS) that the following regulations shall be strictly implemented and enforced effective immediately.

These measures are being reinforced to promote sustainable tourism, marine resource protection, and the safety of all visitors and stakeholders within AIPLS. Please be guided accordingly.
