✨ An Exciting Wednesday Meeting by RCDS 😝✨

It was another lively and meaningful Wednesday gathering last April 15, 2026—filled with energy, purpose, and the true spirit of Rotary. From the moment fellow Rotarians came together, the atmosphere was warm, engaging, and full of positivity—a reflection of the strong bond that unites the club.

More than just a regular meeting, it became a space to reconnect, share ideas, and look forward to greater opportunities to serve.

Adding to the excitement, we were honored by the presence of members from the Rotary Club of Dumaguete East, who joined us to promote their upcoming Pickleball fundraising event. This initiative aims to support various future projects, especially in mountain communities. We are truly inspired by their mission and are happy to extend our full support to this meaningful endeavor—another beautiful example of Rotary collaboration in action.

One of the most inspiring highlights was the announcement of the upcoming Medical Mission at Barangay Batinguel this May. Spearheaded by Rtn. Bimbo Lagahit, this initiative is a beautiful reminder of our commitment to extend care and compassion to the community. As preparations begin, the excitement grows—along with the call for every member to take part and make a difference.

The energy continued as we looked ahead to the much-anticipated District 3860 District Convention 2026 at NU Star Mall in Cebu City. With 20 members already registered, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South proudly shows its unity and support. It’s more than just an event—it’s a chance to learn, connect, and be inspired. Truly, something every Rotarian, especially new members, should experience.

In the spirit of fellowship, a heartfelt invitation was also extended to our past and less active members—to come back, reconnect, and once again be part of the Rotary journey. Your presence matters, and your experience continues to shape the strength of our club.

Though the Rotary International Trilogy Half Marathon has been postponed, our enthusiasm remains strong. We move forward with flexibility, knowing that updates will come and our shared mission continues.

As the meeting wrapped up, one thing was clear—RCDS is not just a club, it’s a family driven by unity, service, and purpose.

Here’s to more exciting Wednesdays, meaningful service, and lasting impact!

Service Above Self. 💛

Regular Weekly Meeting of RCDS

It was a bright and refreshing Wednesday morning, April 8, 2026—a perfect day for fellowship, service, and meaningful connections. Under clear skies and pleasant weather, our Rotary family gathered once again for our Regular Weekly Meeting, reminded not only of our shared purpose but also of the importance of taking care of ourselves. As the temperature rises, let us all stay mindful—keep hydrated and continue prioritizing our health.

One of the most touching highlights of the day was the induction of our newest member, Baby Rotarian Kirby Cabañog. It was a moment filled with warmth and pride as we welcomed him into our growing Rotary family. His presence brings fresh energy and hope, and we look forward to seeing him actively participate and embody the true spirit of “Service Above Self.” Indeed, every new member strengthens the bond that unites us all.

As we continue moving forward, excitement builds for one of the most anticipated events of the Rotary year—the District Conference (DisCon) 2026, happening on May 29–31 at NU Star Mall in Cebu City. The event will open with the TRF Activity on the morning of May 29, featuring the prestigious PHF Awarding and recognition of outstanding achievements. It promises to be a meaningful and enriching experience filled with learning, inspiration, and fellowship.

We are proud to share that 20 members from the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South have already registered—a true testament to our club’s commitment and unity. For those who are still considering, there is still time to join and be part of this remarkable gathering.

Moments like these remind us that Rotary is more than just meetings—it is about connection, growth, and service that touches lives.

Thank you, dear Rotarians, for your unwavering dedication and passion. Together, we continue to make a difference—one meeting, one service, one life at a time.

Service Above Self. 💛

✨ President’s Corner Story ✨

It was a weekend filled with energy, laughter, and purpose—one that truly captured the heart of service and fellowship.

On March 21–22, 2026, our club brought together players, families, and friends for the much-anticipated “iDink Pickleball Tournament” at Frnds Pickleball Court in Sibulan. What seemed like a simple sporting event turned into something far more meaningful—a gathering united by one goal: to make a difference in the lives of our beneficiaries from Friendly Homes of iHome in Dumaguete City.

From the very first serve to the final point, the court was alive. Players competed with passion in Singles, Doubles, and Couples categories, each match filled with determination and excitement. Cheers echoed through the venue as supporters rallied behind their teams, creating an atmosphere that was both thrilling and heartwarming. Every rally, every point, and every smile reminded us that this was more than just a game.

Behind this success was the dedication and leadership of VP Mark Genove, whose commitment ensured that everything flowed seamlessly. As the night deepened and the clock struck midnight, the final matches concluded—marking not an end, but a celebration. The awarding ceremony that followed was filled with pride, gratitude, and shared joy, made even more special by the presence of our esteemed guests and fellow Rotarians.

Adding more value to our recent gathering, we were also honored to have a distinguished Guest Speaker, Ms. Joselita Remedios “Lilit” S. Bayalas, Director of DOLE Negros Oriental and Siquijor Field Office. She delivered an insightful and informative talk on the benefits and rights of labor workers, helping members gain a deeper understanding of important workplace matters. The session became even more engaging through an open forum, where members actively raised questions—particularly those concerning their employees—making the discussion both practical and highly relevant.

But beyond the trophies and applause, what truly mattered was the impact we created together. Through this tournament, we turned friendly competition into meaningful service—proving that even in sports, we can uplift lives and strengthen our community.

And the journey doesn’t stop here.

As we look ahead, excitement continues to build for the upcoming District Conference and TRF Awarding this May in Cebu. With strong participation from our club, it promises to be another inspiring chapter of learning, recognition, and fellowship.

Preparations are also underway for our Turnover Ceremony—another milestone that celebrates leadership, continuity, and our shared commitment to serve.

To all our fellow Rotarians, let this be a gentle reminder as well to settle our semestral dues, as your support keeps our mission alive and thriving.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Together, we create impact. Together, we serve.

Service Above Self.

RCDS in Action | Unite for Good

True service begins when people and institutions come together with one shared purpose.

On March 11, 2026, representatives of the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South met with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Negros Oriental Field Office in Bacong, Negros Oriental to strengthen partnership and explore meaningful collaboration in service to the community.

During the meeting, Dir. Ponciano Ligutom and PP Ely Bodo met with Ms. Joselita Remedios S. Bayalas, Chief of DOLE Negros Oriental and Siquijor Field Office, to discuss the upcoming implementation of the High Impact, High Visibility Inspection (HIHVI) Program in the transport sector.

The discussion emphasized the importance of unity in promoting labor standards compliance, occupational safety, accountability among transport stakeholders, and the protection of workers and the riding public.

On behalf of RCDS President Niño Marfren Joseph Echiverri Viking, Ms. Bayalas was also invited to serve as Guest of Honor during the club’s Women’s Month Celebration on March 25, 2026. She graciously accepted the invitation.

This meaningful engagement reflects Rotary’s call to Service Above Self, a reminder that when leaders, agencies, and communities work hand in hand, service becomes stronger, compassion becomes visible, and lasting impact becomes possible.

On March 10, 2026, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South successfully conducted a Medical Mission at the Looc Covered Court in Brgy. Looc, Dumaguete City, bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community. This meaningful outreach was made possible through the collaboration of the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South with the Philippine National Police – Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office and the Highway Patrol Group – Negros Island Region.

The activity began at 8:00 AM and concluded at 12:00 NN, serving many residents from nearby communities who came to receive free services and medical assistance. The mission provided a variety of services aimed at improving the health and well-being of the community, including:

• Free Circumcision for children
• Free Medical Check-up
• Free Medicines and Vitamins
• Free Optical Check-up and Reading Glasses for the elderly
• Free Legal Consultation
• Free Massage Therapy
• Free Haircut Services

Many families benefited from these services, especially those who have limited access to medical care. The smiles and gratitude from the beneficiaries reflected the true impact of this outreach program.

This initiative would not have been possible without the strong support and leadership of PLT COL Ronoel R. Fungo, DPDA of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office and PEMS Aurelio Bodo of the Highway Patrol Group – Negros Island Region, who is also a dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South. Their commitment to community service greatly contributed to the success of this activity.

Through unity, compassion, and service, this medical mission truly embodied the Rotary spirit of “Service Above Self.” It stands as a reminder that when organizations and communities work together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of many.

☀️ Fellowship After Service ☀️

After the successful “Hunat Alang sa Lunga Watershed” Tree Planting Activity in Barangay Lunga, Valencia, the Rotarians decided to take a well-deserved break. Under the warm morning sun and after hours of meaningful work, everyone felt both tired and thirsty.

The group headed to a local restaurant in Valencia to enjoy a hearty breakfast and refresh themselves. What began as a simple meal quickly turned into a beautiful moment of fellowship—filled with laughter, stories, and reflections about the morning’s activity.

Moments like these remind us that Rotary is not only about service, but also about building strong friendships and meaningful connections. These bonds make it easier for us to work together, communicate better, and accomplish even greater projects for our community in the future.

Indeed, service becomes even more meaningful when it is shared with friends who believe in the same mission: Service Above Self.

🌟 Service, Fellowship, and Leadership in Action 🌟

Despite the many challenges we face in our personal and professional lives, Rotarians continue to rise above and make meaningful accomplishments. Even in the midst of our busy schedules, our commitment to Service Above Self remains unwavering.

As we gather for our regular weekly meeting, we are reminded of the spirit that binds us together—not just as colleagues or partners in service, but as one Rotary family united by purpose, compassion, and dedication to making a difference.

🏕 RCDS Fellowship & Camping Success

Last February 28 – March 1, 2026, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South successfully held its RCDS Fellowship and Camping Activity at the beautiful Victoria’s Mountainview in Sitio Linogan, San Miguel, Tanjay City.

Several Rotarians and Anns participated in this memorable activity that began on Saturday afternoon and concluded on Sunday. The event was filled with laughter, meaningful conversations, and moments that strengthened the bond of fellowship among members.

One of the highlights was a refreshing visit to a nearby river just a short walk from the campsite. The crystal-clear water flowing beneath the warmth of the sun created a truly relaxing and joyful experience for everyone. It was a moment of connection with nature—and with one another—that we will surely cherish for a long time.

🌟 Empowering the Youth through RYLA

We are proud to share that four (4) participants from our club have already registered for the upcoming Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). This initiative reflects our continued commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and empowering young people to become catalysts of positive change.

For those who aspire to become a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF), registration is still open. This recognition will be conferred during the Rotary Foundation Night on May 28, 2026. By becoming a PHF, members contribute to strengthening The Rotary Foundation, allowing Rotarians around the world to continue life-changing humanitarian projects.

🎉 District Conference 2026

Another exciting event ahead is the District Conference (DISCON) 2026, which will be held at NUSTAR Resort and Casino from May 29–31, 2026.

Many RCDS members have already confirmed their participation, and we warmly encourage others to join this significant gathering of Rotarians. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate achievements, build connections, and strengthen our commitment to service.

🏓 “Idink for Service” Pickleball Tournament

Sports and service come together in our upcoming “Idink for Service” Pickleball Tournament on March 21–22, 2026. This special fundraising event will benefit the Friendly Homes community, proving once again that fellowship and meaningful service can go hand in hand.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of clean and sustainable water while supporting projects that provide safe water access, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education for communities and schools.

🌱 Expanding Rotary Through Satellite Clubs

🌟 Rotary in Action: Service That Inspires and Unites 🌟

The past weeks have truly reflected the heart of Rotary in action—service that informs, protects, nurtures, and strengthens our community. Through meaningful initiatives and strong partnerships, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South continues to make a positive difference in the lives of many.

👨‍🎓 Empowering the Youth Through Awareness
Last February 9, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South successfully conducted a Drug Awareness Symposium and Traffic Accident Prevention Seminar at Metro Dumaguete College. Hundreds of students, particularly young drivers, gathered for a meaningful morning of learning focused on discipline, responsibility, and safety on the road.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Rtn. Ronoel Fungo, PP Aurelio Bodo, PMSG Paulo Toñares, and PSSG Emelyn Piñero, who delivered powerful and eye-opening messages about road safety, obedience to the law, and the dangers of illegal drugs.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Eva C. Melon and Dr. Delma Manila for their unwavering support in making this activity possible. One of the most touching moments of the seminar was when the students made a symbolic pledge to choose a better and safer path. It was a powerful reminder that when Rotary partners with educational institutions and law enforcement, we help shape responsible and informed future leaders.

🌱 Loving and Protecting Our Environment
On February 14, RCDS proudly joined Metro Dumaguete Water in the tree planting activity titled “Hunat Alang sa Lunga Watershed” held in Barangay Lunga, Valencia. Assigned to Site 1, our members planted more than just trees—we planted hope for a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.

🏓 Fellowship Through Sports for a Cause
As part of the Rotary Week celebration, RCDS proudly sponsored the iDINK Pickleball Tournament for the Friendly Homes Beneficiary last February 21 at the SLV Pickleball Club in St. Louis Village, Bagacay, Dumaguete City.

From 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Rotarians, players, and community members came together in a day filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and a shared purpose of supporting the Friendly Homes community. The event beautifully demonstrated how sports can unite people while supporting a meaningful cause.

The excitement continues as we look forward to the next iDINK Pickleball Tournament on March 21–22, 2026, to be held at Frends Pickleball Court in Maslog, Sibulan. Let us continue to rally behind this initiative and extend our support to Friendly Homes.

♟ Celebrating Leadership in the Community
We also extend our warm congratulations to PP Greg Uymatiao, President of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Dumaguete City, for successfully organizing the Open Chess Tournament held at Robinsons Dumaguete, with technical support from the Dumaguete Negros Chess Club.

Likewise, we commend AG Ran Lim and Rtn. Ashley Morelos for proudly representing RCDS at the Provincial Environment Committee Meeting in Pamplona, demonstrating Rotary’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship and collaboration.

📌 Upcoming Rotary Events
Let us look forward to and actively participate in the following Rotary gatherings:
• PELS & SELS – April in Koronadal, South Cotabato
• District Convention (DisCon) – May 29–31, 2026 at NUSTAR Mall, Cebu

✨ Service Above Self
Fellow Rotarians, these past weeks remind us that Rotary is not just about meetings—it is about meaningful action. Through awareness programs, environmental initiatives, fellowship activities, and leadership in the community, we continue to create lasting impact.

Together, let us keep the Rotary wheel spinning—strong, united, and committed to Service Above Self. ⚙️💙

🏕✨ RCDS Fellowship & Camping Success ✨

Last February 28 – March 1, 2026, the Rotary Club of Dumaguete South (RCDS) successfully held its much-anticipated Camping Fellowship at Victoria’s Mountainview in Sitio Linogan, San Miguel, Tanjay City.

This memorable activity was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Pres. Ann Soci Ame Viking and Ann Laverne Grace Baricuatro, whose hard work and thoughtful preparation truly brought the event to life.

Upon arrival, everyone assembled their own camping tents for the night—working together with excitement and teamwork as we prepared our sleeping place under the cool mountain sky. From the moment everything was set, we were captivated by the breathtaking overlooking view—where the sparkling lights of Bais City and Tanjay City shimmered beautifully against the night sky. The cool, fresh mountain air gently embraced us, and the weather perfectly cooperated, making the entire experience even more enjoyable.

Our gracious host prepared a delightful dinner that evening, setting the tone for a night filled with laughter and fun. The organizers facilitated exciting games that brought so much joy—especially to the children, whose smiles and laughter filled the air. Around the bonfire, warmth and happiness surrounded everyone, creating a cozy and festive atmosphere.

Rotarians shared meaningful conversations over light drinks to ease the mountain chill, while the Anns enthusiastically took over the karaoke, singing their hearts out until the early hours of the morning. With so much enjoyment and fellowship, most of us finally rested at around 3:00 AM. From night until morning, everyone was busy taking photos—capturing smiles, laughter, and beautiful moments that will surely make this camping fellowship unforgettable for years to come.

As dawn broke, we were greeted by a magnificent sunrise—golden rays shining across the mountains, offering a peaceful and refreshing start to the day. During breakfast, our generous host once again delighted us with delicious food that everyone truly enjoyed—perfectly comforting after a fun-filled night.

After breakfast at 10:00 AM, some members took a short walk to a nearby river. The crystal-clear water was inviting and refreshingly cold, perfectly balanced by the warmth of the sun. It was a simple yet unforgettable experience.

The fellowship began Saturday afternoon and concluded Sunday afternoon, attended by several RCDS members together with their Anns/Spouses and children. Indeed, it was a heartwarming gathering filled with laughter, camaraderie, strengthened friendships, and cherished memories.

Moments like these remind us that beyond service, Rotary is also about fellowship and family. This is truly an experience we will treasure—and certainly one we look forward to repeating in the future.
