Salute to all farmworkers who work tirelessly to ensure our tables are never without fresh produce. Your dedication and hard work are the backbone of our agricultural sector. 🙌🫡

Farmworkers and carabaos have long been mainstays in the rural setting. They are the original farming duo! The carabao’s draft power has proven to be an exceptional complement to farmers’ labor to produce staple food, thus, the aphorism “a farmer without a carabao is just half a farmer” verily depicts this narrative.

According to Days Of The Year, “Farmworker Appreciation Day” celebrated on August 6th, recognizes the hardworking individuals in the agricultural sector and their critical role in food production.

The Municipal Agriculture Office turns over disinfectants to Barangay Mudiit as part of the efforts of the Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Conde Turqueza to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever in the community.

The disinfectants were requested from the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera Administrative Region.

Other barangays will also be receiving their disinfectants in the coming days.

Mayor Conde Turqueza leads the DRRM Response Clusters in distributing hygiene kits, family kits and food packs to the evacuees in Barangay Cardona.

The hygiene kits and family kits were requested from the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera while the food packs were procured by the Local Government Unit of Dolores.

Mayor Conde Turqueza, along with the Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Ms. Josefina Belisario personally visited the vendors at the Public Market to inform them of the preventive measures the town is implementing against African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Mayor has ordered the temporary banning of the entry and exit of swine, pork and pork products in the municipality. This includes the procurement of processed and frozen pork products.

According to the Mayor, Dolores remains to be ASF-free but the disease is highly contagious with high mortality rates in swines.

The Mayor also emphasized that, while the virus does not have an effect on human health, it does pose a significant threat to the livelihood of hog raisers and businessmen, as well as the food supply in the community and the local economy.
