🌧️ Day 1 just ended, advocates! 💚♻️
Day One surprised us with a rainy and cold morning — but that didn’t stop our young advocates from learning and interacting with one another. As Ms. Samantha said, “We felt tired, but we woke up because we were excited.” 😌⚡
We discussed the entirety of plastic: from who made the first-ever organic plastic to the EPR Law and NPAP — actions led by the national government of the Philippines to combat the 2.7 million metric tons of plastics the country emits yearly. The orientation was led by our dear SSLG Officers, who studied and prepared hard to give the students the knowledge they don’t just want but the knowledge they need. 🧠📚
🎮 It didn’t stop there!
After the discussion, they were paired up for the morning game called “Mutual Understanding” — a challenge that tested their knowledge and memory of everything discussed. It was an intense battle between Grades 7 and 9 👀🔥 yet as the end approached, the rise of the Grade 8 council stood tall. You know what they say: “Ang bida natatalo sa una, ngunit nananalo sa huli.” And true enough — the Grade 8 council claimed the victory. 🏆✨
🎉 And there’s more!
The afternoon was FULL of fun and activities — from Find the Missing Word to Spelling Bee. That afternoon wasn’t just full of advocates… it was full of geniuses too. 🧠🤓 Grade 9 dominated the Spelling Bee competition, yet the Grade 8 council once again fought back and went home carrying another champion title. We also held a Poster-Slogan Making competition, where intellect and arts combined beautifully. Grade 8 representative Ms. Paraiso went home (too early? 😂) with 1st Place on her certificate. 🎨✨
♻️ And the excitement continued with our School-Wide Plastic Hunt!
We also conducted a School-Wide Plastic Hunt, where students raced to collect as many plastics as they could. The competition was intense, and once again, Grade 8 dominated — from the amount of plastics they collected to how competitive they were in the follow-up questions. Their teamwork, speed, and awareness truly showed that they came prepared not only to compete, but to advocate with purpose. 💚🗑️🔥
✨ And let’s not forget the Grade 7 council!
The Grade 7 council brought home the greatest achievements — experience and memories. This activity isn’t only intended to win but to be aware, and they truly embodied that. They were the most quiet and attentive, yet also participative. They had the most vulnerable and fresh minds in a room full of advocates, but they too are advocates in their own right. They weren’t left behind in any competition — they had a participant in EVERY SINGLE event, showing their diversity, bravery, and hunger for knowledge. Don’t be too sad, Grade 7 — you have a long way ahead of you, newbies! You have a lot to learn, and you’re doing amazing so far. Keep it up!
🌟💚
🌱 More than just learning…
This day wasn’t just about learning and getting involved in environmental issues — it was also about having fun along the way, finding the silver lining amid the “lost hope” of humanity. As the younger generation, we are not obligated to carry the burdens or solve the recklessness of past generations. But we are tasked to be more aware, more involved, and to teach the younger ones. After all, if “the youth are the hope of the nation,” then let’s make sure we guide them right. 💚🌍✨
🙏 Special Thanks!
The YES-O and SSLG family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the Community and Family Services Initiative (CFSI). This day became a success because of their support and assistance — everything was a breeze. 💨💛
