A major breakthrough for Dinagatnons seeking overseas employment is on the horizon as the Seasonal Workers Program for South Korea is set to resume in early 2026, following a high-level meeting at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Central Office.

The development came after Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., MPM paid an official visit to the DMW, signaling renewed opportunities for qualified workers from the Province of Dinagat Islands to work legally and safely in South Korea.

According to the DMW, program guidelines are now in their final draft stage and will soon be circulated to key stakeholders, including the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands, for consultation.

The updated guidelines are designed to strengthen worker protection and welfare while streamlining the hiring and deployment process for local government units.

In a significant move, Governor Demerey formally invited DMW officials to conduct the consultative meeting in the Province of Dinagat Islands, ensuring that local stakeholders are directly involved in shaping the programโ€™s final provisions. The consultation is scheduled for February 2026 and will gather DMW officials, staff, and provincial representatives for in-depth discussions.

Governor Demerey was warmly received at the DMW Central Office, also known as the Tahanan ng OFWs by Assistant Secretary Jerome A. Alcantara, Director Mel C. Candano, and Labor Attachรฉ Hermie L. Daytoc, underscoring strong inter-agency support for the programโ€™s revival.

This development marks a critical step toward opening new employment pathways for Dinagatnons, reinforcing the provinceโ€™s commitment to safe, legal, and well-managed overseas work opportunities.
