𝗗𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

In an effort to strengthen the student publication, the DSSC Chronicles conducted a Training Workshop on Campus Publication Communication and Style Guide on June 12, 2026, at the DSSC Virtual Library, equipping student journalists with essential skills in journalistic writing and publication standards.

Former MinTech Adviser, Prof. Lloyd Anton Von M. Colita of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) served as the resource speaker and led discussions on effective campus journalism practices, publication style guidelines, and strategies for participating in large-scale journalism competitions.

During the workshop, Colita reviewed the publication’s writing style, identified areas for improvement, and emphasized that journalism extends beyond writing skills alone. He stressed the importance of accuracy, context, and responsibility in reporting.

Drawing from his professional experience, he encouraged student journalists to recognize the role of journalism in informing communities and driving social awareness.

“If you want to change the world, write about it. There is power in journalism,” Colita said.

He also underscored the value of descriptive and engaging storytelling, urging writers to bring readers closer to the events they cover.

“Let them imagine the world through your words,” he added.

DSSC Chronicles Adviser Lilian Guia Burgos encouraged participants to apply the lessons gained from the training in their future journalistic endeavors.

Meanwhile, the publication’s Editor-in-Chief Radz Vincent Miñoza expressed optimism that the workshop would contribute to the organization’s continuous growth and development.

Beyond enhancing journalistic competencies, the workshop forms part of the publication’s initiative to develop a standardized communication and style guide for its print and digital platforms, reinforcing editorial identity and consistency in its content.

Freedom was earned through courage, sacrifice, and unity. Today, we honor the heroes who made our independence possible.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺.

Some students spend the last few minutes silently reviewing notes, trying to remember everything they studied the night before. Others laugh, chitchat, and joke around with their seatmates as if they are not nervous at all.

“𝗡𝗮𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗸𝗮?”
“𝗕𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗻𝗮 𝗻𝗶 𝘂𝘆.”
“𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗶.”
“𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝗽𝗮 𝗻𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀.”
“𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀.”

But psychologically, these different behaviors are simply different ways students cope with pressure.

According to psychological studies, students respond to academic stress in different ways depending on their emotions, personality, and coping mechanisms. Some become quiet and serious because they focus better in silence, while others become more talkative because social interaction helps reduce anxiety and emotional tension.

This is why the classroom before an exam can look calm on the outside while secretly holding hundreds of silent worries inside. Some students fear failing. Some fear disappointing their parents. Some are mentally exhausted but continue showing up anyway.
Even the student laughing with friends minutes before the exam may still be carrying pressure internally. Sometimes, humor and conversation are not signs of confidence, but temporary escapes from stress.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Because inside one classroom, everyone may be fighting a completely different battle that no one else can see.
At the end of the day, students are not only preparing to answer an exam – they are also trying their best to survive the pressure that comes with it.

𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 | 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦

It remembers the trembling of walls and the prayers that rose faster than dust. It remembers hurried footsteps toward open fields, trembling hands searching for familiar faces, and names called into the confusion of a world suddenly made unsteady.

Beneath the roads we travel and the homes we call our own lies a story once spoken in fear and destruction. Its voice echoed through towns and cities alike, leaving behind ruins where certainty once stood and dust where memories were made.

For a moment, it seemed as though everything had changed.

But then came the hands that cleared the debris.

The neighbors who checked on one another.

The strangers who became rescuers.

The communities that gathered not because they were untouched by tragedy, but because they refused to be defined by it.

The ground remembers.

But so do we.

We remember the cracks left upon our walls, yet we remember more clearly the hands that rebuilt them. We remember the fear, but we remember the courage that stood beside it. We remember the uncertainty, but we remember the hope that carried us through.

For every structure that fell, countless spirits remained standing.
The earth has tested us before. It has shaken our foundations and reminded us how fragile life can be. Yet each time, we answered not with surrender, but with resilience. We found strength in one another, comfort in community, and hope in the promise of another sunrise.

The ground remembers every time it has broken.
We remember every time we have rebuilt.

And perhaps that is the story of Mindanao. not one of destruction, but of endurance. Not of what fell, but of what rose again. Not of the shaking, but of the people who stood firm long after it was over.

For beneath us lies a restless earth, ancient and powerful.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | 𝗗𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗖𝗪𝗧𝗦 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔.𝗬. 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) held its CWTS Awarding Ceremony, on June 6, 2026 at the Main Campus gymnasium, gathering CWTS students, NSTP faculty members, and the college president in a celebration of service, leadership, and academic achievement.

The program formally opened with the CWTS Adviser, Jovelle Bandaan, who underscored the vital role of the youth as future nation-builders, emphasizing that CWTS graduates represent youth capable of breaking generational lapses and driving meaningful change through active community engagement.

An inspirational message was delivered by the college president Dr. Augie E. Fuentes, who highlighted that CWTS goes beyond academic learning, stressing that true success in the program is reflected not in grades alone, but in one’s commitment to serve the community. She also emphasized that the values and lessons gained through CWTS are manifested in the students’ dedication to nation-building, shaping them into individuals who are not only educated but also deeply committed to serving humanity.

A significant moment of the event was the declaration of graduates by NSTP Director Raji-Un A. Pedtamanan (MAEd), who officially recognized a total of 798 CWTS students as program completers.

The ceremony proceeded with the awarding of certificates, led by the NSTP faculty, symbolizing the students’ excellence, hard work, and dedication throughout the program.

Special awards were also presented to outstanding individuals and groups, including CWTS Officers of 2026, recipients of the Volunteerism Awards, Team Leaders recognized for Leadership Awards, Most Outstanding CWTS Students, Leadership Excellence Awardees, Best Project Proposal Awardees, and the Spirit of Volunteerism Award recipient.

The event concluded with the closing remarks of the NSTP Director, who delivered a message that reignited the students’ spirit of volunteerism, encouraging them to carry forward the values of service and community involvement beyond the institution.

𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆| 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗯𝘆𝗲

The countdown to goodbye does not begin on graduation day. It starts much earlier—in the final weeks of classes, when the hallways of Davao del Sur State College feel strangely different. The same corridors that once echoed with hurried footsteps and unfinished assignments now carry a quieter sound: the realization that an ending is near.

College has always been a paradox. It is a place where students constantly wish for the
semester to end, yet mourn when it finally does. We counted down the days to freedom,
only to discover that freedom arrived hand in hand with farewell.

Looking back, it is almost difficult to believe that we survived.

We survived sleepless nights spent staring at laptops that seemed brighter than the moon.
We survived deadlines that arrived like relentless waves, each one threatening to pull us
under before we could catch our breath. We survived examinations that transformed
ordinary classrooms into battlegrounds where confidence and doubt wrestled for victory.

There were moments when the finish line appeared impossibly distant. A failed quiz felt like
the end of a dream. An overwhelming workload seemed heavier than the mountains
surrounding Digos City. Some days, the future looked less like an open road and more like a
fog-covered path.

Yet somehow, we kept moving.

Perhaps the secret was never found in individual strength.

Perhaps it was found in the people walking beside us.

In a world that often celebrates independence, college quietly teaches a different lesson:
survival is rarely a solitary achievement. Behind every student who crossed a difficult
semester was a circle of friends who carried pieces of the burden.

The notes shared minutes before an examination.

The group chats that transformed panic into laughter.

The late-night conversations that began with academic concerns and ended with life advice.
The simple question, "Kaya pa?" that somehow became a lifeline.

Our peers became bridges over the uncertainties we could not cross alone. They were
lanterns during seasons when motivation flickered like a dying flame. They became mirrors
reflecting strengths we could no longer see in ourselves.

Friendship in college is a peculiar kind of magic. It turns strangers into family and ordinary
moments into memories worth carrying long after commencement exercises are over. It
transforms crowded classrooms into communities and difficult journeys into shared
adventures.

The mango trees standing around the campus seem to understand this. Throughout the
years, they have silently witnessed students arrive with nervous hearts and leave with
transformed lives. Like those trees, friendships take root quietly. At first, they seem small
and insignificant. Then one day, you realize they have grown strong enough to provide shade
during life's hottest seasons.

As the countdown to goodbye continues, the campus becomes a gallery of symbols. Empty
chairs remind us of conversations that once filled entire afternoons. Worn-out notebooks
become archives of victories and struggles. Even the familiar buildings stand like silent
witnesses to stories that only students truly understand.

And perhaps that is what makes farewells so difficult.

We are not merely leaving classrooms.

We are leaving versions of ourselves.

The uncertain freshmen who once searched for room numbers have become individuals
capable of navigating challenges far greater than academic requirements. The students
who doubted their abilities now carry lessons that cannot be measured by grades alone.
Ironically, college teaches us how to move forward by giving us people we never want to
leave behind.

Soon, the final bell will ring. The hallways will empty. The deadlines will disappear. The
countdown will reach zero.

But the true measure of these years will not be found in transcripts, certificates, or
completed requirements.

It will be found in the friendships that made impossible days survivable.

It will be found in the hands that helped carry burdens too heavy for one person alone.
It will be found in the realization that while college was filled with challenges we thought we
could never survive, we did—not because the journey became easier, but because we never
walked it alone.

And when the time finally comes to say goodbye, perhaps we will understand that endings
are another paradox. They hurt because something beautiful happened.
