We honor the memory of the 23 lives of Tausug and Sama recruits who were brutally executed in Corregidor Island during the secret mission called Operation Merdeka on the painful event known as Jabidah Massacre of 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟖, 𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟖.

The recruits who were brought to the military base received promises of duty and honorable work yet faced confusion and violence. Only one survivor named 𝐉𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐚 revealed the truth, exposing the dreadful tragedy.

The massacre left a lasting impact on the people of Bangsamoro. It became the rallying cry for justice, a reason to fight for self-determination and inspired every Bangsamoro to assert their rights and uphold their dignity.

As we observe the day of Shuhuda, we commemorate the lives of the martyrs that were lost for the Bangsamoro people. The tragedy that was told reminding us the continuing struggle for peace, justice, self-determination, and that truth will remain and that the courage of the Bangsamoro people would never be erased.

Last March 21, the University of the Philippines Mindanao Association of Muslim Students (UPMAMS) observed the Eid’l Fitr celebration at the UP Mindanao Mosque, joined by prayer-goers from surrounding communities. This marks the third successful Eid gathering since the mosque’s renovation — a meaningful moment of gratitude, unity, and spiritual renewal.

As 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 draws to a close, we pause in reflection and gratitude to honor women in our lives and communities. Their strength, resilience, and unwavering faith continue to shape generations and inspire meaningful change.

From the exemplary women in Islamic history to the women of today who lead, nurture, and serve with purpose, their lives stand as enduring reminders of dignity, compassion, and excellence.

Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
“𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙒𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙪𝙥𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥…” (Surah Luqman 31:14)

May this verse deepen our appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of women, especially our mothers, and guide us in upholding the respect and honor they rightfully deserve.

The 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐥-𝐈𝐟𝐭𝐚 announces that the Shawwal moon was not sighted. 🌙

With this, we complete 30 days of Ramadan, and 𝐄𝐢𝐝 𝐀𝐥-𝐅𝐢𝐭𝐫 will be celebrated on 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 (Saturday), InshaAllah.

As we reach the end of this blessed month, we carry with us the lessons Ramadan has gently taught our hearts: patience, humility, and devotion.

Allah reminds us in the Qur’an, “...𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙮 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)

May Allah SWT accept all our ibadah, forgive our shortcomings, and allow the light of Ramadan to remain with us long after it has passed.
