MEMORANDUM: Class Suspension, Work Arrangements, and Response Evaluation
Date: October 11, 2025
To: All Students, Faculty, and Staff

Please be advised of the following updates regarding classes and operations at the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) of Davao:
1. Per Local Government Unit (LGU) announcement, there will be no classes at all levels on Monday, October 13, 2025.
2. Starting Tuesday, October 14, 2025, until Saturday, October 18, 2025, all classes will be conducted via online mode.
3. All offices will resume on campus for all faculty and staff on Monday, October 13, 2025.
4. Children of employees who are enrolled students of PWC may be brought to school but shall stay in a designated area for their online classes.
5. To observe safety protocols related to the recent earthquake and ongoing aftershocks, no large groups in meetings or school activities will be allowed at this time.
6. All faculty and staff, as a department, are required to meet on Monday, October 13, 2025, to evaluate our response to the incident last Friday. Guidance is requested to conduct a training session to debrief and create support activities that address trauma as well as handle stress and anxiety for all students and members of the PWC community.
7. May I request that faculty use Monday, October 13, 2025, as a time to prepare for the shift to online mode starting Tuesday, October 14, 2025. This will ensure a smooth transition and continued quality of instruction.

JUST IN | Magnitude 7.5 Quake Jolts Davao Region; City Response in Full Swing

A powerful magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 A.M. today, October 10. The tremor was strongly felt at Intensity V in Davao City, leading to widespread disruptions and an immediate government response.

In an official update at 12:00 P.M., the City Government of Davao confirmed the full deployment of its emergency response teams. Personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Health Office (CHO), City Engineer's Office (CEO), and the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) are on the ground conducting rapid damage assessments and assisting affected individuals. The CDRRMO is also actively monitoring coastal areas for tsunami threats and coordinating with national agencies in anticipation of aftershocks.

While initial reports confirm structural damage across the city and several individuals treated for injuries and panic attacks, the city government has reported no confirmed fatalities as of noon today. The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is on standby to launch relief operations if necessary.

As a precautionary measure, the City Government of Davao has suspended classes at all levels for both public and private schools, as well as work in all government offices. Private institutions, like PWC of Davao, have also suspended classes to ensure student and faculty safety.

A Red-Orange Tsunami Warning is in effect for the coastal areas of Davao Oriental and nearby provinces. Residents in these high-risk zones are ordered to evacuate to higher ground immediately.

The public is warned to expect aftershocks. Stay calm, remain alert, and prioritize safety.
