Sukkot begins at sundown on Wednesday evening.

All around Israel families are preparing to spend time together in their Sukkahs. It is a time where they remember the wanderings of the Israelites in the desert after the revelation at Mount Sinai, with the huts representing the temporary shelters that the Israelites lived in during those 40 years.

To celebrate this festival from within Israel is particularly special.

Despite the many years of being scattered around the world, the return of the Jewish people to the land of Israel is in fulfilment of the many prophecies God promised to plant them in Israel, never again to be uprooted.

“I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them,” says the LORD your God.” - Amos 9:15

God promised the Land of Israel to the Jewish people as an everlasting procession. We know that God will be faithful to keep his word.

The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” - Genesis 13:14-17

It's Purim!

The festival of Purim remembers the bravery of Esther who spoke up for the Jewish people at the risk of her own life.

Today, as the nation of Israel is again fighting a battle for its existence, our prayer is that we would be like Esther, those who speak up for Israel and pray for her deliverance.
