MAWAB, DAVAO DE ORO — The Municipal Government of Mawab, in coordination with the Mawab Municipal Police Station (MPS), has intensified the enforcement of the town’s Anti-Smoking Ordinance to help ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more disciplined community for all Mawabeños.
Mayor Myrill Apit emphasized that the renewed campaign is anchored on protecting public health and strengthening discipline in public spaces.
“We are serious about protecting the health of our people. This intensified enforcement is not meant to harass anyone, but to ensure that our public places remain safe and smoke-free for everyone,” Mayor Apit said.
Under the leadership of PMAJ June Eric B. Deguito, Chief of Police, personnel of the Mawab MPS have been directed to conduct regular patrols and monitoring in public areas to ensure strict compliance with the ordinance, particularly in zones where smoking is prohibited.
Strict Enforcement and Penalties
The Mawab MPS clarified that the campaign goes beyond reminders, as violators will face immediate consequences, including:
* Issuance of citation tickets for on-the-spot documentation of violations;
* Monetary fines based on the provisions of the municipal ordinance; and
* Legal action against individuals who refuse to comply with citations.
Protecting Public Welfare
Police officials stressed that the crackdown is aimed at protecting residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children, senior citizens, and non-smokers, from exposure to secondhand smoke.
“Disiplina karon, kahimsog ug kaluwasan ugma (Discipline today, health and safety tomorrow),” the Mawab MPS stated in its public advisory.
Call for Community Cooperation
Authorities urged the public to cooperate by observing the ordinance and practicing self-discipline, as these efforts contribute to making Mawab a safer and more livable municipality.
The intensified enforcement forms part of the Mawab MPS commitment to Serbisyo, Disiplina, ug Pagpanalipod sa Katawhan (Service, Discipline, and Protection of the People).
