On April 23, 2026, “Safe Barangay, Strong Community: A Focused Group Discussion on Children’s Rights” was successfully conducted at the Session Hall, Brgy. Maa, Davao City.

This activity was conducted in response to the identified need to strengthen coordination and improve protocols in handling cases involving children within the community. It focused on enhancing collaboration between Police Station 16 Maa, Barangay Maa, Government Organizations (GOs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and other barangay stakeholders, particularly in ensuring child rights-based and coordinated responses to child-related concerns.

It was conducted in collaboration by the Social Work Intern assigned at the 𝘼𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙤 𝙙𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙤 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 – 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩, under their Field Instruction II, and Barangay Maa.

The FGD was facilitated by Jeanette L. Ampog, Executive Director of Talikala, and served as a platform for discussing existing gaps and strengthening protocols in handling cases involving children. It also emphasized the importance of coordinated action among GOs, NGOs, CSOs, the barangay, and other stakeholders in promoting and protecting children’s rights.

Through collaborative dialogue, the activity reinforced the importance of unified systems and clear coordination mechanisms to ensure effective, timely, and child-sensitive interventions in the community.

Special thanks to Police Station 16 Maa, Barangay Maa, CSWDO, DSWD, and all partner stakeholders for their active participation and commitment to strengthening child protection systems.

On April 21, 2026, “Strengthening Families and Youth: A Community-Based Approach to Prevent Juvenile Delinquency” was successfully conducted.

This activity was conducted in response to the identified issues from the needs assessment, particularly on rising concerns related to youth behavior and risks of juvenile delinquency in the community. It was coordinated together by the Social Work Intern assigned at the 𝘼𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙤 𝙙𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙤 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 – 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩, under their Field Instruction II, and with Barangay 32-D.

The session highlighted the importance of family involvement, positive youth engagement, and community collaboration in preventing juvenile delinquency. Participants were equipped with practical strategies to support youth development, strengthen family relationships, and promote a safe and nurturing environment.

Recognizing the vital role of families and community leaders, the activity emphasized proactive and preventive approaches to address the root causes of delinquent behavior among the youth.

On April 17, 2026, “Paws & Responsibility: A Seminar on Responsible Pet Ownership” was successfully conducted at the Gem Village Multipurpose Gym, Brgy. Maa, Davao City.

This activity was conducted in response to the identified issues from the needs assessment in Brgy. Maa, particularly on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. It was organized by the Social Work Intern assigned at the 𝘼𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙤 𝙙𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙤 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 – 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩, under their Field Instruction II, in partnership with Barangay Maa.

With Rovie Bullina from Bantay Hayop Davao as the resource speaker, the session provided Purok Leaders with valuable insights on responsible pet ownership, current challenges involving irresponsible pet owners, and the pressing issue of stray animals and rabies in the community. The discussion also introduced relevant laws, ordinances, and the proposed Animal Welfare and Responsible Pet Ownership Ordinance.

Recognizing that Purok Leaders are frontliners in addressing these concerns, the activity emphasized their vital role in promoting humane, sustainable solutions and community-based action. Through education and empowerment, this initiative aims to address the root causes of stray proliferation and strengthen community responsibility.

On April 22, 2026, “Proper Waste Disposal and Sanitation Practices” was successfully conducted for the residents of Barangay 32-D, Poblacion District.

This activity was conducted in response to the identified issues from the needs assessment, particularly on improper waste disposal and sanitation concerns within the community. This activity was jointly conducted by the Social Work Intern assigned at the 𝘼𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙤 𝙙𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙤 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 – 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩, under their Field Instruction II, in collaboration with the 𝘼𝙧𝙧𝙪𝙥𝙚 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 and the 3rd Year Social Work students under the Service Learning Program (SLP), in partnership with Barangay 32-D.

The seminar formally commenced with registration and orientation, followed by the presentation of house rules and safety protocols to ensure an organized and secure learning environment. Participants were then welcomed through opening messages that emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility, public health, and collective accountability in maintaining proper waste management practices.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Bobby Lloyd T. Bulaclac from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), who provided a comprehensive discussion on solid waste management. He highlighted key policies under Republic Act No. 9003 and relevant city ordinances, emphasizing mandatory waste segregation at source, proper disposal practices, and the roles of households, barangays, and institutions in ensuring effective waste management systems.

The discussion also addressed current environmental challenges, such as increasing waste generation and limited landfill capacity, enabling participants to better understand the broader impacts of improper waste disposal. Practical concerns raised during the open forum, including waste handling, disposal schedules, and accountability of households and establishments, were thoroughly addressed to contextualize policies into real-life community situations.

Through interactive engagement, participants gained knowledge and practical strategies to improve sanitation practices, comply with environmental regulations, and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable community.

Recognizing the vital role of community participation, the activity emphasized that proper waste management is a shared responsibility that requires discipline, cooperation, and consistent practice among all stakeholders.

On March 12, 2026, the Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID) - Healing and Recovery for Drugs Surrenderers/reformist and Social Work Department - Good Neighbor Project conducted a Fossilized Cacao Training at the Multiplier Farm in Barangay Tibuloy, Toril, Davao City, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The activity was attended by participants from 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐨𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬 (𝐏𝐖𝐔𝐃𝐬), 𝐈𝐏 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐖𝐃 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 .

The training aimed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, which may serve as a potential livelihood opportunity for the community.
The training was facilitated by CAID personnel together with the interns, with 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐆. 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚, 𝐃𝐡𝐮𝐦 𝐇.𝐂, 𝐅𝐒𝐂𝐎 serving as the Resource Person, who shared her expertise and guided the participants throughout the learning process.

On April 14, 2026, a Fossilized Cacao Leaves Training was successfully conducted at Brgy. Tibuloy Gym, Toril District, Davao City as part of the activity implementation for Field Instruction II. The said activity was participated by the 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬 (𝐑𝐏𝐖𝐔𝐃𝐬), 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡, bringing the community together in learning a sustainable livelihood opportunity for their additional income generation.

On June 23, 2025, Ateneo de Naga University conducted a benchmarking visit at Ateneo de Davao University, hosted by the Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID).
Held at the CAID Conference Room, the session focused on the exchange of knowledge and best practices concerning the Philippines' anti-drug initiatives. The discussion emphasized innovative strategies in community-based rehabilitation, preventive education, and inter-agency collaboration. The various programs and services of the center were also presented, showcasing alignment with Davao City's local ordinances.

On June 3, 2025, we had the meaningful opportunity to begin the plotting of Volva mushrooms in the beautiful community of Barangay Salaysay, Marilog District.

This marks a significant step forward as community members put into practice what they’ve learned during their several trainings in mushroom cultivation. It's inspiring to see knowledge turn into action, empowering lives and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

This initiative is made possible through the partnership with the Ateneo de Davao University - Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID), a shared commitment to promote livelihood opportunities, empowerment, and positive change.

This is more than just agriculture; it’s about nurturing futures, building resilience, and growing together.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟑𝐫𝐝-𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

Today, May 20, 2025, a significant step towards community empowerment was taken at Barangay Matina Aplaya with the seminar "Empowering Communities: Understanding Addiction and the Legal Framework Against Drugs."

We were honored to have Atty. Catherine Docdocil, our resource speaker from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) who provided crucial insights into Republic Act 9165, the cornerstone of the Philippines' anti-drug efforts. Complementing this, Dr. Apple G. Alvarez, RN, from the Ateneo de Davao University - School of Nursing shared valuable knowledge on the science of addiction, helping participants understand its complexities.

This activity was born out of a Training Needs Assessment conducted by our 3rd-year Social Work students, fulfilling a requirement for their SocWk 3145 Community Education and Training. It also stands as a testament to the Arrupe Office of Social Formation's commitment to service through its Service-Learning Program (SLP).

A special thank you to our long-standing partners in Barangay Matina Aplaya, an active collaborator with the AdDU - Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID) and the Good Neighbor Project (GNP)! Your participation was invaluable.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) for their endorsement, and to PDEA and the AdDU School of Nursing for their expertise and collaboration.
