In the observance of the 18-Day To End Violence Against Women, Talikala, Inc was part of RCAT-VAWC that plan and implement two major activities which involve VAW survivors and different stakeholders that help in the prevention and response to VAW cases. One was the VAW Survivors' Summit last December 1 where the victims-survivors discussed the different services they accessed and the challenges they faced in accessing such. These women also recommended steps and interventions to different agencies that can help them and other victims in the city.

Another activity which is equally important is the Stakeholders Meeting Consultation on VAWC, TIP, and OSAEC which was mostly attended by the tourism industry. The consultation tackled laws on TIP, OSAEC, and the role of the tourism industry such travel agencies, tour guides, and accomodation. Participants discussed different cases of VAW and VAW like TIP, OSAEC, VAWC, and child abuse and identify interventions which can help the victim/s. It was such an eye-opener to hear the discussions and exchange of ideas from group that are not typically identified as service providers.

These activities were successful because of the active partnership of RCAT-VAWC, DSWD, IGDD, DOTXI and Talikala, Inc.

November is National Children's Month in the country based on RA 10661 to commemorate the adoption of the UNCRC. Talikala had observed the 33rd National Children's Month by conducting a Girl-Children Congress last November 22 with organized girl-children organization from barangays Tibungco, Sasa, Paciano Bangoy, Leon Garcia, 23-C, 5-A, and Matina Aplaya.

Girl children discussed the state of children in their areas in different settings such as home, school, and communities. They had identify child abuse such as corporal punishments, exclusion, s*xual and economic as problems of children in their homes. Bullying and corporal punishments were identified as top issues in schools which they experienced from classmates and teachers. As girls, they observed that there are girls who experienced teenage pregnancy, used illegal drugs, va**ng and smoking, gangsterism, and being s*xually harassed by adults. Specifically as girls, they identified that they experienced being peeped when they take a bath, harassed when riding single motors, being lured on online prostitution and CSAEM, r***d, and subject to body shaming and cyberbullying.

"The International Day of the Girl Child 2025 theme is "The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis," focusing on the leadership and resilience of girls, particularly in crisis situations. This theme, developed with input from girls, will highlight their role in driving positive change and the need for support and action to address the unique challenges they face."

Girl-children should be given opportunity to develop their skills in leading and a safe space to be one.

Talikala, Inc. culminated the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TIP) by distributing advocacy banners to our partner barangays. 💙

This activity is part of our ongoing campaign to raise awareness and strengthen the fight against human trafficking in our communities. These banners serve as daily reminders that trafficking has no place in our neighborhoods.

Barangay partnerships are crucial because they are the first line of defense in identifying, preventing, and responding to trafficking cases. With the support of local leaders and functionaries, we can reach more people, protect more lives, and empower communities to act.

Together, let’s continue to protect women and children, educate our communities, and take a stand against exploitation.

📢 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons Forum

In a united stand against human trafficking, Brgy. Tibungco and Talikala, Inc. held a culminating forum today, July 29, 2025, in observance of the upcoming World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, with Brgy. functionaries in full attendance.

Our resource person, Rose Quimod, shed light on the Anti-Trafficking in Persons (TIP) law, Republic Act No. 9208, and its amendments through R.A. No. 10364 and R.A. No. 11862, emphasizing the provisions involving children. She underscored the urgent need for community vigilance, survivor-centered responses, and grassroots action.

🔊 Human trafficking ends when communities get involved.
Let’s protect the vulnerable, raise awareness, and stand in solidarity with survivors.
