Part 3 - The Story
Maya doesn't even sit down.
"Teacher! Can I tell what I saw?" she says.
Her teacher smiles and nods. "Of course, Maya."
All the kids turn. Fifteen pairs of eyes, wide open.
"And then I saw a monkey! Swinging from the trees this morning! Like this!"
"Wow..." whispers her friend.
"The jungle wasn't scary. It was saying good morning."
The whole class smiles back at her.
Part 4 - The Way Back
School is over. The bell rings.
Maya doesn't walk alone this time.
"Come with me! I'll show you the monkey tree!" she says to her friends.
They walk back into the jungle together. But the jungle feels different now. The afternoon sun is golden and warm.
They laugh. They crunch on the dirt path. They hold hands tight.
"Come on, race you to the big tree!" Maya giggles.
They aren't scared at all. Because the jungle isn't just a path to school anymore. It's their path. Their adventure.
Together.

part 1: The Jungle Path
Maya is 8 years old. Every morning, she puts on her light blue school shirt, her plaid skirt, and her favorite pink backpack.
To get to school, she doesn't take a bus. She takes the jungle path.
The jungle is tall and green and misty. The sun makes golden stripes through the leaves. Birds sing everywhere.
Some kids would be scared. But not Maya.
She walks bravely on the dirt path. She holds her backpack strap tight.
Halfway through, she stops and smiles. She takes a deep breath.
"I can do this," she whispers to herself.
And she keeps walking, deeper into the light, because on the other side of the jungle, her school is waiting.
