Conduct of the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2026
Mahayag National High School successfully conducted the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2026 on June 18, 2026, at exactly 9:00 A.M.
As this was the first earthquake drill conducted for the current school year, some confusion was observed among the students regarding the proper evacuation procedures. Delays also occurred during the evacuation process, as some participants were not fully committed to taking part in the drill.
Following the drill, an assessment and evaluation were conducted by the School Head, School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Coordinator, SDRRM Responders, and teaching personnel. Based on the findings, a repeat earthquake drill was conducted for Grade 7 and Grade 8 learners to reinforce the proper evacuation procedures and improve the use of the designated evacuation routes.
The evaluation also identified several hazards along the existing evacuation routes and within the designated evacuation areas. Consequently, additional meetings, assessments, and planning sessions will be conducted to review and implement necessary improvements to the school's evacuation plan, routes, and evacuation areas.
Overall, the earthquake drill was conducted satisfactorily and successfully achieved its primary objective—to identify gaps and weaknesses in the school's emergency preparedness and response procedures. The observations and lessons learned from this activity will serve as the basis for further improvements.
To enhance the preparedness of both learners and school personnel, Mahayag National High School will continue conducting school-based earthquake drills and other disaster preparedness activities in the future.
