ICYMI: September 2026 is Basic Education and Literacy Month!

The Rotary Club of Downtown Davao visited Tanglad Integrated School in Sta. Maria, Malita, Davao Occidental in support of education and literacy.

A total of 60 children from 4Ps beneficiary families received school bags with essential school supplies. The Club also sustained its Library and Multimedia Room project, donated in RY 2024-2025, with additional reading materials and educational toys.

The Rotarians were warmly welcomed by the school’s Marching Band, making the visit even more meaningful.

Through sustainable initiatives like these, the Rotary Club of Downtown Davao continues to empower young learners and promote a brighter future through education.

MABUHAY KA, PP ANDENG! The Rotary Club of Downtown Davao (RCDD) is proud to share the important milestone achieved by our Immediate Past President Andrea ”Andeng” Dela Cerna - winning SILVER for Team Philippines during the recently concluded Sh***un World Shoot 2026 held in Corinth, Greece.

Organized by the prestigious International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), the world competition involved 30 stages over five days, welcoming almost 1,000 competitors from 50 countries and making it the biggest sh***un match in IPSC history.

Police Lt. Col. Andeng is a decorated champion competitive shooter who balances a prominent career in law enforcement with elite practical shooting. She began her competitive shooting career in 2006 as a PNPA cadet. Over the years, she has transitioned successfully from handgun disciplines to practical sh***un, representing both the PNP and the Philippine national squad at the international level.

PINK OCTOBER AT THE DAVAO CITY COUNCIL. Thank you, Councilor Trisha Ann Villafuerte, Chair of the Committee on Health, for inviting the Rotary Club of Downtown Davao (RCDD) to speak about during the 40th Session of the 21st City Council of Davao yesterday, October 6, 2026.

RCDD President Maria Rea Lane Horfilla thanked the City Council for passing the resolution officially supporting and institutionalizing the annual hosting of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, known as "Pink October," starting in 2023 and continuing every October thereafter. It was sponsored by then Councilor Pilar C. Braga during the 20th City Council.

That council resolution inspired Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to issue Proclamation No. 3 series of 2023, which was signed on October 6, 2023. So RCDD’s visit to the City Council yesterday coincided with the third anniversary of the city’s official adoption of Pink October as a city-wide celebration.

Pink October is a signature advocacy project initiated by RCDD since 2012.

Yesterday’s presiding officer, Councilor Jay Quitain, proudly announced the significant participation of selected members of the City Council to the on October 10, Saturday, at 2pm at SM City Annex Event Center in Ecoland.

Pink Runway is a fashion show for a cause, which began last year, wherein breast cancer survivors walk the runway to model original creations by local designers. It aims to showcase the beauty, strength, and resilience of women living with breast cancer and to bring hope to others.

This year, BreastFriends, a support group and community organization composed of breast cancer survivors and advocates in Davao City, will model upcycled creations by Susan Magno Antepuesto, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer herself. The theme is REBIRTH and REGENERATION - giving new life to old clothes and repurposing old fabrics and creating something new and beautiful.

They will be joined by advocates from different sectors, including Davao City Councilors, who will wear their own pink Filipiniana outfits while the Davao Youth Symphony Orchestra plays Filipino folk songs live.

Pink Runway model-advocates — Councilors Petite Principe, Myrna Dalodo Ortiz, Rachel Zozobrado, and Pamela Librado — warmly welcomed RCDD President Rea and Vice-President Patmei Bello Ruivivar to yesterday’s council session. They are all happy to support and promote breast cancer awareness not just through their work as legislators, but also as empowered women lifting up other women.

PINK WALK 2026. The led the annual celebration of in today, October 5, starting with the from Freedom Park to Rizal Park. Then Pink October is officially launched during the Monday flag raising ceremony at Davao City Hall.

Pink October is a signature advocacy project of RCDD started in 2012 promoting Breast Cancer Awareness. It is officially adopted by the City Government of Davao through a City Council Resolution and an Executive Order issued by Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte.
