🏫 Students of San Juan High School in Mexico, Pampanga, including Sherlyn Louisse Tupe and Gian Carlo Cabral, recently experienced the film and learned about the Philippine Eagle, the threats it faces, and the people working to save it.

🔥 𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑

These photos show the same Philippine Eagle nest in Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte—used in December 2025, then burned by forest fire in September 2026.

After a long dry spell, the fire reached the eagle’s nesting forest. BFP, MENRO, DRRM, PEF, local forest guards, and two Mt. Apo Bantek Puwalas Indigenous Forest Fire Fighters worked on the ground to stop it from spreading and protect the remaining nesting territory—including an area where the eagle pair may already be nesting again.

Then nature helped too: rain finally came for three straight days.

One nest was lost, but thanks to the quick response from LGU Gigaquit, the rest of the forest was spared.

For generations, the Ata-Manobo of Talaingod have protected the forests they call home. Now, that stewardship is being strengthened through a formal conservation partnership.

On September 15, 2026, the Ata-Manobo Indigenous Political Structure, NCIP, and Philippine Eagle Foundation signed an agreement to strengthen protection of the Ata-Manobo ancestral domain in Talaingod, Davao del Norte.

These forests shelter the Philippine Eagle, wildlife, watersheds, and generations of Indigenous knowledge.

At the heart of the partnership is one principle: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

With support from PEF and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Philippines, the Ata-Manobo will lead efforts in forest guarding, carbon assessment, 3D mapping, community conservation planning, nurseries, agroforestry, and sustainable livelihoods—guided by their customs, traditions, and knowledge of the land.

For the children of the Bagobo Tagabawa community in Sibulan, Davao City, learning began beyond the walls of a classroom.

Through the first session of Driving Roots to Rise, children learned about the majestic Philippine Eagle, explored the Bagobo Tagabawa conservation philosophy, and brought their connection to the forest to life through painting. 🎨🌳

At the same time, parents and guardians explored practical ways to strengthen household livelihoods—from developing product ideas and understanding basic costing to record-keeping and pitching.

Together, these experiences bring conservation closer to everyday community life: connecting children with the wildlife and forests around them, while helping families build skills and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Because when people are connected to their culture, their forests, and opportunities to thrive, conservation can grow from the community outward.

From an idle land donated for conservation, to seedlings of native trees planted and nurtured, to a young forest now recognized as one of the ASEAN region’s best models for forest restoration.

On September 9–10, the Philippine Eagle Foundation, represented by Director for Operations Dr. Jayson C. Ibañez and Monkayo Pag-asa Carbon Forest Site Manager Ms. Mary Grace Abundo, joined restoration leaders from across ASEAN at the ASEAN Green Initiative (AGI) Recognition Ceremonies and Technical Forum.

The Monkayo Pag-asa Carbon Forest in Monkayo, Davao de Oro was recognized for its innovative and participatory ecosystem restoration project, which placed the Philippines anew as being among the region’s hubs for reforestation best practices.

This recognition is a symbol that no restoration effort stands alone. Behind every seedling is a BASAKWA worker's labor, a PEF team's commitment, and a partner's belief in the work — together, they turned Monkayo into a forest worth honoring.

Because saving the Philippine Eagle was never meant to be a conversation for the Philippines alone. 🌍
