In this third episode, we compare the Philippine Eagle with another raptor: the White-bellied Sea Eagle.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲: the Philippine Eagle’s mane-like crest, eye color, beak, feet, and overall posture help set it apart. Where you see them also gives an important clue. White-bellied Sea Eagles are usually found along coasts and near large rivers and lakes, while Philippine Eagles depend on forests.

As Australia and the Philippines celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, partnerships rooted in culture, conservation, and community continue to strengthen the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The Australian Embassy in the Philippines delegation, led by Australian Deputy Ambassador Nicholas Kay and joined by Claire Bowyer and Rollie Dela Cruz, visited the Philippine Eagle Foundation to connect with PEF and its Indigenous partners and explore continuing collaboration in conservation, nature-based solutions, and cultural exchanges between Australia’s First Nations rangers and Mindanao’s Indigenous forest guards.

The visit included a tour of the Philippine Eagle Center, engagement with the Maragusan Mansaka, Obu Manuvu of Tambobong, Matigsalug of Datu Salumay, and Ata of Paquibato District, and a presentation highlighting the nearly decade-long partnership between the Australian Embassy and PEF in advancing community-led conservation across Mindanao.

We are proud to announce the election of Mr. Edgar O. Chua as the new President of the Philippine Eagle Foundation's Board of Trustees.

No stranger to PEF's mission, Mr. Chua has long been a steady presence in the Foundation's leadership, bringing with him over 38 years of experience in business, corporate governance, and environmental advocacy.

His continued service to PEF is a testament to a conviction he has long held: that business, governance, and conservation are not separate pursuits — they are deeply connected responsibilities.

A visionary entrepreneur and longtime advocate of the arts, culture, and environment, Mr. Campos brought a wealth of leadership experience and a genuine passion for the Philippines to his role as Trustee. His support helped strengthen PEF's foundations during a critical period of growth , and his belief in the mission of protecting the Philippine Eagle and its forest home left a lasting mark on the Foundation.

As a career philanthropist and passionate advocate for communities and children, Ms. Eduque brought heart, purpose, and an unwavering sense of mission to her role as Trustee. Her life's work reflects the same conviction that drives PEF: that protecting the future means investing in people and the place they live in.

Their presence on the Board has been truly an inspiration, and their commitment and contributions to conservation will continue to echo through every work that we do.

We thank them for their service, their dedication, and the spirit of generosity they brought to our shared mission.

His life's work reflects a conviction that is close to our own: that what we protect today defines what future generations will inherit. For PEF, that inheritance is the Philippine Eagle — the living symbol of our nation's forests and its people's resilience.

Protecting the Philippine Eagle requires people who understand how institutions are built, sustained, and held accountable — and Atty. Fernandez brings exactly that.

The Philippine Eagle Foundation welcomed evaluators from the Southeast Asian Zoos and Aquariums Association on May 14, 2026, for the first-ever SEAZA Animal Welfare Evaluation at the Philippine Eagle Center — a milestone reflecting our commitment to the highest standards of animal care and conservation.

From husbandry and enrichment to safety and welfare practices, the evaluation challenged us to keep improving for every animal under our care.

These are not just labels. They are warnings. Every status on that list tells a story of a species fighting to survive in a world that is changing faster than they can adapt.

Many of these species share the same forests, the same ancestral lands of the Obu Manuvu of Tambobong, that the Philippine Eagle calls home. As the umbrella species of conservation, protecting the Philippine Eagle means protecting every living thing that thrives beneath the forest canopy it guards. 🦅

Partnering for Culture and Conservation 🦅✨

​Protecting the Philippine Eagle starts with the people who share its home.

​We recently visited our partner communities in Barangay Tambobong with the Obu Manuvu and Barangay Datu Salumay with the Matigsalug—home to critical Philippine Eagle nesting sites. These visits allowed us to explore the potential of these sites for Community-based Tourism, aiming to protect nesting territories while preserving indigenous culture and building sustainable livelihoods.

​This mission is made possible in partnership with the Department of Tourism Region XI, Davao City Tourism Operations Office, and Department of Social Welfare and Development Region XI.
