𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞:

The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) offers its heartfelt condolences and extends solidarity to the family and loved ones of our fellow Palaweño who we lost due to the Human-Crocodile Conflict in the Municipality of Balabac today, December 10, 2025.

This is a challenging time for all Palaweños, and PCSDS assures support to the affected areas in Southern Palawan, where communities are striving to live peacefully. To address the current issues, we will conduct a comprehensive population study on the Indo-Pacific Crocodiles in Palawan.

In the coming months, we will provide updates and invitations for active collaboration with the general public, especially those in the affected communities. We also look forward to leveraging expert scientific insights to address this situation and are open to hearing your opinions and suggestions.

PCSDS will:

•𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧 to ensure the welfare of affected communities;
•𝐎𝐛𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐨-𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬in the Municipalities of Rizal, Balabac, and Bataraza to reassess their current status as threatened species;
•𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, which may also create livelihood opportunities for local communities;
•𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐬 for Indo-Pacific Crocodiles while ensuring the safety and protection of both communities and the environment.

We hope that through collective action, we can achieve socio-economic welfare for all communities and foster continuous coexistence between humans and Palawan’s wildlife.

🌍🐊 Happy World Crocodile Day! 🐊🌍

Fresh from the wild! The CPPI team has just returned from a one-week expedition deep in the untamed rivers of Abra, where we surveyed the proposed Critical Habitat for the Critically Endangered Philippine Crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis).

This activity was in partnership with DENR CAR and funded by Zoological Society for the Conservation of Species and Populations (Zoologische Gesellschaft für Arten- und Populationsschutz - ZGAP).

Despite their elusive nature, we documented several tracks — a promising sign that this rare species still roams these waters.

Let’s continue working together to protect one of the world’s rarest crocodiles and the habitats they call home. 💚
