What we are about
"You show us how to be musicians and encourage us"
- Agdao Student
Here at the Agdao Violin Institute we teach elementary through adult age students the art of music. We believe all children should have the opportunity to play a musical instrument, but more importantly we believe in sharing the Truth about God's gift to us all in the form of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. We
will give you very beautiful music"
- Agdao Student
In the years following its founding, the institution has worked with over 800 students, with around 100 students working together and performing at any given time. These students come from a very poor area in Davao City, the capitol of Mindanao Island, 500 miles south of Manilla. A number of students perform on a constant basis at churches and schools in and around the community, with the full orchestra performing a few times per year and with wind and percussion players from two other schools, as the Davao Youth Orchestra. The children have taken part in parades, contests, private recitals, and even Christmas caroling, a favorite activity of the students. CURRENTLY MINISTRY NEEDS
Currently there remain two major needs for the Agdao Violin Institute. The first deals with staffing, whether in the form of permanent residents or of visitors from the United States and Canada. Foreign staff work as volunteers, while native staff are paid modest, but locally competitive wages, supplied primarily by donations. The second major goal for the Agdao Violin Institute is the purchase of a new building in which students could practice and perform on a regular basis. However, even in the Phillipines, buildings are not cheaply bought, and new facilities require new donations. If you would like to help the Institute in any way, please see the contact information. "Your foundation is becoming a blessing to our community and to our church"
