🌿 Our Land. Our Knowledge. Our Plan.

On September 7–8, 2026, the PAFID team conducted the Community Validation of the LABATA ADSDPP and CCP at the Langgawisan Tribal Hall, Maragusan, Davao de Oro.

The two-day activity provided a space for elders, leaders, community members, and other stakeholders to review, discuss, and validate the draft ADSDPP and CCP, including the information, plans, and priorities developed and discussed during the ADSDPP enhancement workshops and the succeeding planning process.

More than simply reviewing a document, the community validation is an important step in bringing together community knowledge, experiences, concerns, and aspirations and ensuring that these are properly reflected in the plans for their ancestral domain.

Through collective discussion and validation, the community had the opportunity to confirm, clarify, and provide inputs on the matters discussed throughout the process, so that the final ADSDPP and CCP reflect what the community understands, supports, and envisions for their ancestral domain.

Through this process, LABATA continues to strengthen its vision for the protection of its ancestral domain, culture, livelihoods, and natural resources. 🌱

When the community speaks, the plan becomes stronger. When the community leads, the future becomes more meaningful. 🤝🌿

🌿 Patrolling the Forest. Documenting Change. Protecting What Remains

From August 27–29, 2026, the Mansaka Forest Guards of Maragusan conducted a forest foot patrol in Mt. Kyaburuan, Barangay Mapawa, Maragusan, Davao de Oro, to monitor the condition of the forest, document biodiversity and natural resources, and observe possible environmental disturbances.

The patrol provided valuable field observations on the condition of the forest, its biodiversity, and natural resources, reinforcing the importance of continued monitoring, documentation, and community-led efforts to protect this forest ecosystem. 🌳

Further into the forest, the Rangers also encountered wildlife and other remarkable natural features, demonstrating that Mt. Kyaburuan continues to provide habitat for wildlife and support a valuable and diverse ecosystem. 🐦🌿

The patrol underscores the need for sustained forest monitoring, responsible management, wildlife protection, and continued coordination among forest rangers, local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

What we document today helps guide how we protect the forest tomorrow.🌳

🌿 Guarding the Forest, Protecting Life

From August 24–26, 2026, the LABATA Forest Guards conducted a three-day forest patrolling, monitoring, and documentation activity in Purok Lanipga, Barangay Bahi, Maragusan, Davao de Oro.

They monitored the condition of the forest, documented trees and natural resources, and checked for signs of forest disturbance and illegal activities. The activity also strengthened coordination with the Barangay Government of Bahi in advancing forest protection and conservation.

With no visible signs of forest destruction or illegal activities observed along the patrol route, the activity reaffirmed an important principle: forest protection requires continuous presence, vigilance, and community action.🌳

Weaving Knowledge, Strengthening Women, Sustaining Culture🌿

From August 7 to 29, 2026, a traditional weaving training for Indigenous women from the Langgawisan Bahi Tribal Association (LABATA) and Sumpaw Nang Mangkatikadung Sang Maragusan was conducted.

The training was facilitated by Felipa Manangka, a T’boli weaver from Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, who served as the trainer and mentor, sharing her knowledge, skills, and experience in traditional weaving with the participating Indigenous women.

Supporting Indigenous communities goes beyond documenting culture. It means strengthening the people who carry, practice, and pass on Indigenous knowledge.

Through weaving, Indigenous women are developing skills that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods, while also helping keep traditional knowledge, designs, techniques, and cultural expressions alive and meaningful for the next generation.

The training also created an opportunity for knowledge exchange across Indigenous communities, demonstrating how learning from one another can strengthen local capacities while respecting and valuing the distinct cultural identities and traditions of each community.

When Indigenous women are empowered to carry their cultural knowledge, culture becomes more than something to preserve—it becomes a living expression of identity that is passed on from one generation to the next.

A Milestone for Indigenous-Led Conservation 🌿

We are pleased to share that the Indigenous Community Conserved Area of the Mansaka Community in Maragusan, locally known as Dumot, is now officially reflected in the ICCA Registry managed by the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

This recognition highlights the cultural and ecological importance of Dumot and the continuing role of the Mansaka community in Maragusan in protecting and managing their ancestral territory.

The successful update in the ICCA Registry marks another important step in recognizing and supporting Indigenous-led conservation and stewardship.

We celebrate this milestone with the Sumpaw Nang Mangkatikadung Sang Maragusan and our community partners who continue to work toward the protection of Indigenous territories and their natural and cultural heritage.
