Meet our artist of the week!

Dan is a multidisciplinary artist from Mindanao whose passion lies in storytelling through music, photography, and design. Growing up in a home where music was ever-present, he developed a deep connection to sound and emotion from an early age. What started as a simple love for sharing song covers in 2018 quickly grew into a bold journey of writing and producing original music by 2020, blending his personal experiences into dreamy, emotional landscapes that reflect life’s quieter moments.

Resourcefulness has been a key part of Dan’s artistic path. With limited access to professional tools in his early years, he relied on creativity, perseverance, and a strong belief that true art is born from heart rather than equipment. Every project begins with a feeling. A vivid memory, a daydream, or a fleeting thought which he carefully shapes into both sound and visuals. His approach intertwines emotion and atmosphere, creating works that resonate deeply and leave lasting impressions.

Rooted in the vibrant culture of Mindanao, Dan remains committed to authenticity over trends, focusing on building genuine connections through his art. His journey, shaped by patience and persistence, stands as a testament to the power of staying true to one’s voice. Today, he continues to evolve, capturing the beauty of real, often unspoken emotions, and reminding others that the quietest stories can often speak the loudest.

From Swipe Files to Dreamscapes: Randylle Deligero's Visual Symphony

Randylle Deligero, a Davao City-based multimedia artist, has carved a niche for himself in the realm of digital art, primarily focusing on photo manipulation. A graduate of Bachelor in Multimedia Arts, Deligero's expertise spans photography, 2D digital art, and even ventures into 3D digital art, with his signature style revolving around the intricate art of image collage and enhancement.

Deligero's journey into photo manipulation began seven years ago, during his initial explorations with Adobe Photoshop. What started as an experiment to create memes and refine photography skills evolved into a passionate pursuit of mastering the art of blending and enhancing images. He meticulously combines multiple images into cohesive compositions, elevating them with carefully applied effects.

His artistic inspiration draws from a diverse pool of influential artists. Brandon Woelfel's dreamy lighting aesthetics significantly impact Deligero's creative photography. Benny Productions' unique blending techniques and dynamic lighting have deepened his understanding of photo manipulation.Phaserunner's fantasy-themed style, with its captivating use of assets and techniques, provides a constant source of inspiration for his fantastical creations.

By actively engages with the art community, showcasing his work through various platforms, including art groups, exhibits, and online breakdowns and timelapses. He emphasizes the importance of visibility and mutual support among artists, particularly for those from Mindanao. He encourages fellow Mindanaoan artists to share their work, regardless of scale, highlighting the vital role of exposure and community support in artistic growth.

Creative process is a meticulous blend of inspiration and technical skill. He begins by immersing himself in diverse artworks, compiling a "Swipe Files" folder for easy access. He then consolidates these inspirations into a mood board, complete with a color palette and reference images. A sketch of the final piece guides the image gathering process, often the most challenging stage. The magic unfolds as he blends and combines these images, applying his knowledge of lighting, perspective, and effects.

Digital tools are essential to Deligero's workflow. Adobe Photoshop serves as his primary software, and he occasionally utilizes Blender to create custom assets and landscapes. Alongside digital tools, he maintains a sketchbook for traditional sketching, which he considers vital for fostering creativity.

Influences manifest naturally in his work through repetition and seamless integration. He enjoys the process of combining diverse influences to create something new and unique.

Early in his career, he struggled with the pressure of online metrics, battling feelings of inadequacy and stagnation. However, he learned to prioritize personal satisfaction over external validation. He discovered the importance of taking breaks, disconnecting from the digital world, and appreciating the value of rest. This shift in perspective allowed him to focus on creating art for himself, free from the constraints of online expectations.

Deligero's artistic journey in Mindanao has been a gradual but fruitful process. He emphasizes the importance of embracing the process, acknowledging that progress, however small, is significant. He advises emerging artists to enjoy the journey, not just the destination, and to foster a supportive community. He believes that artists thrive by lifting each other, emphasizing that art is not a competition but a collaborative endeavor.

Michael L. Laguros is making waves in the world of fashion from a place many wouldn’t immediately associate with runway glamour. At just 24 years old, the innovative fashion designer from Tagum City, Davao Del Norte, Philippines, champions bold, avant-garde creations that celebrate inclusivity and culture. His story is one of passion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to honoring the past while redefining the future of fashion.

Michael's journey began with a fascination for clothing that dared to be different. Born and raised in a small city, he didn’t have immediate access to the glitz and resources of fashion capitals. But his passion for design pushed him beyond the constraints of his environment. Early on, he embraced challenges, including the scarcity of materials and overwhelming customer demands, as opportunities to grow. “Thank God to His guidance,” Michael says, reflecting on the sleepless nights and moments of doubt he endured along the way.

Currently working with House of Musa, an inclusive brand, Michael has found a platform that aligns perfectly with his values. House of Musa doesn’t just cater to a variety of sizes, but its shows, open to all ages, echo its powerful advocacy for diversity and inclusion. This advocacy is woven, quite literally, into the threads of his garments, as Michael often works with Musa Fabric. This unique fabric, made from banana fibers and colored threads, reflects both sustainability and cultural storytelling.

At the recent Musa Global Fashion Runway celebrating the brand’s fifth year, Michael’s creations paid tribute to the people behind the fabric’s legacy. “I took a look behind the people who work hard to sustain the advocacy of Musa,” Michael shares, referring to the PDL (persons deprived of liberty), Ata Manobo (indigenous weavers), and the advocates who continue to inspire him. "You can see it on the garments,” he says, a fact that resonates in the meticulous craftsmanship of his designs.

Michael’s approach to creating his pieces is a blend of structure and inspiration. Each design begins with a mood board, where he selects the best fabrics before crafting a sample piece, which will eventually evolve into the final garment. Embellishments are added with care, giving the finished product the flair that makes it runway-ready. “I used our very own Musa Fabric and worked with fabric manipulations or other techniques,” Michael explains, a sign of his commitment to innovation and artistry.

Much of Michael’s drive comes from the people around him. “I got my dedication from the inspiration I’ve received from others who have showed me that there are ways to accomplish what I want to accomplish and do it in the correct ways or techniques,” he shares. This philosophy has guided his creative process, helping him achieve his goals while remaining grounded through both successes and setbacks.

His personal mantra is as inspiring as his designs. “Just true to yourself, go beyond limits, and don’t forget to honor the past (culture/traditions) while embracing the future of fashion,” Michael advises. It’s a reflection of his belief in merging fashion with meaning, a quality that sets him apart in a highly competitive industry.

When asked what advice he’d give to aspiring designers, Michael’s words are simple yet impactful. “Never compete with other designers. Focus on your progress and believe in yourself. Do your best! Passion for fashion!” This wisdom carries the weight of experience and acknowledges the importance of individuality in a field driven by creative expression.

Michael is more than a designer; he’s a storyteller. His work bridges gaps between past and present, weaving heritage with innovation. Whether he’s crafting bold, avant-garde pieces or refined made-to-measure garments, his creations speak volumes about his commitment to inclusivity and cultural preservation.

𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗿 𝗢𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻

Shievar Olegario is a Dubai-based motion designer known for crafting moving visuals across multi-channel platforms. Renowned for his experimental approach, Shievar blends authenticity and bold storytelling to push creative boundaries. His work has earned him recognition globally, including awards from the Binisaya and Salamindanaw film festivals, with features in Cinemalaya, Cambodia International Film Festival, and the Criterion Channel.

Guided by curiosity, Shievar avoids confining himself to a niche, focusing instead on creating art that reflects honesty and builds a genuine connection. Inspiration often stems from music, life experiences, and the resilience gained from overcoming challenges. For him, art is a life’s purpose and a source of solace, grounding his commitment to constant creation.

Shievar emphasizes the importance of balancing passion with practicality. He advises artists to maintain a stable foundation by pursuing financial security through a 9-to-5 or other stable work. This ensures that their basic needs are met—enabling them to dedicate personal time to honing their craft without compromising their well-being. He believes that this stability creates the freedom to practice consistently and explore creative pursuits with discipline.

Shievar’s process is rooted in patience, organization, and a deep understanding of the message he wants to communicate. Whether crafting films or visuals, he explores innovative techniques while staying true to his artistic vision. Influenced by Japanese cinema and creators like Satoshi Kon, Shievar's work reflects a subconscious tapestry of his favorite media, adding depth to his storytelling.

For emerging artists, Shievar stresses the importance of thinking beyond local horizons and building confidence in their craft. Staying humble, embracing feedback, and focusing on both technical and creative growth are key. Specificity in defining oneself as an artist helps shape clear creative goals.

His advice is simple yet powerful: “Just continue.” Each step in the journey offers lessons, and even with battles ahead, there’s value in looking back and recognizing how far one has come. Optimism, trust, and perseverance remain at the heart of his advice.

Madayaw! Meet our featured artist of the week!

George Adam Sumanday’s story is one of risk, persistence, and discovery. A multimedia arts student with a passion for motion graphics and visual effects, he didn’t have a formal art background before college. Instead, his creative journey began five years ago with nothing but a phone in hand. For two years, George explored editing as a hobby, learning by trial and error. But in the last three years, he has taken his craft seriously, transforming his passion into a career.

It was a moment of inspiration from Anjohn Sorza, an artist he admired, that sparked his decision to pursue multimedia arts. George's leap of faith wasn’t without uncertainty, but today he’s proving it was the right choice.

George’s entry into motion graphics started with making visualizers for musicians, sparking his first freelancing gigs. His work began with indie artists in China and the West, where he experimented with lyric videos and concert visuals. Initially, he created everything on his phone. However, as his work gained traction, he invested in After Effects in 2021, elevating his craft to a new level.

Now, George’s focus has shifted toward motion graphics for brands and commercials. While his earlier work relied on flashy effects, he’s grown into an approach that emphasizes clarity and intent. “It’s about getting the message across, experimenting without losing focus,” he says, explaining how his style has matured.

For George, inspiration comes from the desire to communicate through visuals. Initially drawn to effects and aesthetics, he grew to value the emotional depth visuals could provide. This evolution drives him to explore new methods and styles, keeping his work fresh in a field that evolves rapidly.

Though Mindanao isn’t seen as a creative hub like Luzon, George sees immense potential in its talent pool. Initiatives like Pasundayag sa Dabaw give him hope for a more inclusive creative industry, showcasing the brilliance of Southern artists who often lack exposure.

George’s artistic process adapts to the project at hand. For personal pieces, he lets inspiration guide him, avoiding rigid formulas. For client work, he relies on structure—beginning with mood boards and detailed briefs to ensure the final product stays true to the client’s vision while reflecting his creative touch.

Having started with mobile apps like Alight Motion, George is resourceful by nature. Though he now works primarily with After Effects, his experience taught him that great results don’t always depend on high-end tools.

George encourages Mindanaoan artists to take control of their growth. “Opportunities aren’t always easy to find, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Sometimes, you have to create them yourself. Ipasundayag imong abilidad, bai” he advises, emphasizing the importance of putting your work out there. Joining creative communities like VAMMA also helped him connect with like-minded individuals and uncover new possibilities.

His final piece of advice? Share your work, no matter how intimidating it feels. Building connections and staying consistent will open doors over time.

Follow George’s creative evolution and support a rising talent putting Mindanao’s artistic potential on the map. Whether you’re looking for fresh motion graphics or simply want to witness his impressive growth, George is one to watch.
