𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞

In accordance with Presidential Proclamation 1989, signed in 2010, National Rare Disease Week (NRDW) is observed every last week of February to shed light on the needs and challenges of Filipinos who are part of the rare disease community. This nationwide movement seeks to amplify awareness and encourage stronger public support for individuals and families living with rare disease.

Rare diseases may affect only a small number of individuals, but together they impact thousands of Filipino families who continue to face the barriers in early diagnosis, access to treatment, and specialized care and support. May this week serves as a reminder that equitable healthcare is neither an option nor privilege, it is an essential human right.

The UP Mindanao League of DOST Scholars (UPMin LeaDS) stands in solidarity with the Filipino rare disease community by joining the NDRW campaign and spreading awareness, especially among students. Together, let us continue to care by raising our calls about the significance of creating a more inclusive and responsive health system for all. Because while some diseases may be rare, collective compassion and action should never be.

Let us take this moment to honor someone who truly became an important key in our lives.

‎Silver was more than an Architecture student. More than a DOST scholar. More than a leader. He was a light in our community.

‎As scholars, we carry expectations —excellence, leadership, and service. But Silver carried these with heart. He lived them with sincerity. He gave his time, his effort, and his energy not because he had to, but because he genuinely wanted to uplift the community around him.

‎He was among the people behind the production team of the “Balik Tanaw, Balik Tan-aw” theme song of DOST Scholars — a song that reflects our shared journey, our struggles, and our dreams. He also joined DOST Events such as the SLC in 2023. Through these contributions, he helped create something that continues to unite scholars across the country. That alone is a legacy that will endure.
‎But beyond his achievements, what truly made him unforgettable was the way he lived.

‎Despite being in pain, he always chose to smile. He spread positivity wherever he went. He had a smile that reassured people. A presence that made others feel lighter. Even in difficult moments, he chose hope, he chose encouragement, and he chose to inspire.

‎In our conversations about life and our future as professionals, he reminded us to cherish every moment and not allow stress to consume our joy. From him, we learned that success is about how we carry ourselves, how we treat others, and how we remain grateful despite challenges.

‎Silver became an important part of our lives because he showed us strength without bitterness, leadership without pride, and positivity without pretense
‎Though he is no longer physically with us, the light he shared remains.

‎Silver, thank you for everything.
‎You will always be remembered.

Seams of dawn and darkness build a starry path for 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒔 X: The Decad, as the UP Literary Society's cultural cornerstone celebrates its tenth year.

Art gives the world form, with words springing forth from the mind like dancing phantoms. They pirouette atop the page, ink-trails like echoes from a tell-tale heart reaching for the cosmos, grasping with the fist. The decade is but a microcosm of escapades into worlds of magical musings.

From an idea that takes root in but a miniscule moment, later rising as a sprout, while the abstract assumes the guise of letters—there is a home to be found in the soul-kissed pages where memory learns rhythm and sings, making the inner world tangible as it gazes at a Lover beyond the stage…

We shall wait for you. Let your spirits wander 'round our wonderous realm.

Verses X is an ode to the cathartic, catastrophic and careful mosaics built from moments that have reshaped us and lit the fire of our dreams. Together, we take the form of the World.

Panagtigiay 2026 brings together a lineup of academic engagements, including the 𝐃𝐅𝐒𝐂 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐊, 𝐎𝐧-𝐭𝐡𝐞-𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡, and the 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐳 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥; each of which is designed to invite students into deeper engagement with Food Science and Technology through structured and dynamic competition. 🏆

The program kicks off with two DFSC Talks ֎🏷️ delivered by esteemed faculty, offering students insights into current research and practical applications in Food Science and Technology. In the Poster Making Contest 🎨, participants are tasked with transforming scientific concepts into clear and thoughtful visual interpretations. The Extemporaneous Speech Contest 🎤 and Team Quiz Bowl 💡 place students in situations that call for composure, sound reasoning, and teamwork.

Together, these events provide opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and shared learning within an academic and competitive environment. ✨
