REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR FACE-TO-FACE OATHTAKING OF NEW LIBRARIANS AND INDUCTION OF NEW PLAI MEMBERS

This event celebrates the formal entry of new librarians into the profession and welcomes fresh faces into the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI). It promises to be an afternoon of recognition, inspiration, and community-building among colleagues in the library profession. Whether you're an oathtaker, an es**rt, or a guest, this event is a significant milestone in the journey of our new members and a step forward for the profession.

Date: November 9, 2025 (Sunday)
Time: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Venue: Grand Menseng Hotel, Davao City

INSTRUCTION TO OATHTAKERS:

1. All successful examinees who are interested to attend the face-to-face (F2F) mass oathtaking shall secure a slot via https://online.prc.gov.ph in order to register and confirm their attendance. Select the concerned PRC Regional Office. (DAVAO) (NO payment required). The system will close at exactly 12:00 noon on November 08, 2025.

2. A copy of the Oath Form and QR code shall be downloaded after the transaction.

Note: We encourage the oathtakers to be with their parents/guests for the pinning ceremony.

4. ON THE DAY:
• Inductees shall come in Modern Filipiniana attire while guests/es**rts shall come in Formal Attire. Kindly PRINT the Oath Form with the generated QR code which will be submitted during the oathtaking in order to be tagged as “Attended”.
• PRC personnel will individually scan the QR code in each oath-taker's form to confirm attendance at the oath-taking. After QR scanning, the oath status will be tagged as attended on the day of the oath.

5. After the event, please wait 1-2 days for the system to update your Oath Taking Status. Registrants are then instructed to secure their online appointment for initial registration.

6. Only those whose QR codes are verified by the PRC Personnel may be tagged “attended” in the system.

7. Inductees that have not been tagged as “attended” in the system cannot proceed with their initial registration.

8. On the appointment date and place of Initial Registration, the registrant shall submit a copy of his/her System Generated Registration Form and shall sign the Commission Registry Sheet on site.

Preserving the Future: Prof. Stephen B. Alayon Discusses the Importance of Mastering Digital Archives and Institutional Repositories at PLAI-DRLC Seminar

The final speaker of the first day was Prof. Stephen B. Alayon, an Associate Professor from West Visayas State University. He delivered the closing session titled “Preserving the Future: Mastering Digital Archives and Institutional Repositories.” In his presentation, Mr. Alayon emphasized the importance of developing and maintaining institutional repositories as essential tools for digital preservation. He discussed how these systems facilitate better management of academic resources, particularly theses and dissertations, while helping libraries reduce physical storage constraints.

Prof. Alayon also shared his experience in establishing and managing the institutional repository at West Visayas State University. Drawing from his insights, he explained the process of integrating digital archives into library systems and the long-term benefits they offer for both academics and researchers. His expertise provided a practical framework for attendees on how to effectively preserve scholarly works in a digital format while ensuring accessibility and sustainability.

The seminar concluded with an engaging open forum where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify how they could apply the knowledge shared, particularly in managing valuable resources like theses and dissertations. Empowering Libraries for Sustainable Development: Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado's Topic on Library Innovation

Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Mindanao, took the stage as the second speaker of the first day of the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI) - Davao Region Librarians Council's Seminar-Workshop and General Assembly. His thought-provoking topic, “Libraries for Change: Advancing SDGs Through Library Innovation”, delved into the critical role libraries play in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative practices and digital transformation.

Dr. Amorado emphasized how libraries, as dynamic hubs of knowledge, can drive sustainable change by embracing technology and redefining their functions to support both academic and community development. He discussed the need for libraries to innovate and adapt in order to remain relevant, highlighting how digital tools, resource accessibility, and community engagement can help libraries better support the SDGs and facilitate greater learning opportunities for all.

The session was followed by an engaging open forum, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and interact directly with Dr. Amorado.
