Presenting its objectives and mapping out its planned activities throughout the academic year, the San Pedro College (SPC) Biology Majors Society (BioMS) commenced this year's first general assembly with the theme โ€œHimugso 2026: One Society, One Beginning,โ€ structuring future objectives and targets at Saint Therese Auditorium 7th floor (ST Audi), on Oct. 9.

Gathering 95 biology department members, the event was led by BioMS Moderator Genelyn Bao, MSBio, along with its president, Deneka Regemae Dela Cruz, and other officers.

In her opening remarks, Bao highlighted the role of biology students in the organization, stressing the importance of a community where they belong, contribute, learn from each other, and create experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

โ€œYou learn how organisms adapt, interact, evolve, and thrive within a community. In many ways, our organization is much like the living systems we study. You are different individuals, coming from different peer levels and with different experiences, but when you work together, you become part of something greater than yourselves,โ€ Bao said.

After the opening remarks, Dela Cruz presented the organizational activities and tactical plans, emphasizing its capacity to help biology students gain knowledge, improve research writing skills, and support certain communities by empowering local healthcare workers.

Continuing the program, the President, along with Treasurer Maekhyle Caingles and Assistant Treasurer Angelo Ortega, stressed the organizationโ€™s Constitution and By-Laws (CBL) and the monetary report, clarifying and reinforcing the importance and functions of the laws and the financial requirements that members of the department should abide by.

Following the CBL and report, Bao reiterated the importance of studentsโ€™ financial responsibility to the organization, reminding them of the consequences of insubordination.

During the program, she introduced the current officers, and, led by the president, the officers took the oath, setting their positions and responsibilities in stone for this academic year.

The officers also introduced the departmentโ€™s branding, including the design of their laboratory gowns and the department's merchandise.

At the conclusion of the program, the event heads introduced the biology department faculty and opened the floor for the forum, addressing studentsโ€™ inquiries.
