The Holy Cross of Davao College - College Red Cross Youth proudly celebrates the success of โ€œPeace in Practice: Crossblazers and the Humanitarian Call.โ€ This event brought together students and participants to learn, share ideas, and understand more about International Humanitarian Law.

The sessions and open forum gave everyone the chance to speak, ask questions, and connect lessons to real-life situations. It reminded us that helping others starts with awareness, responsibility, and action.

This event was made possible through the teamwork of our officers, chairpersons, and committees. Everyone worked togetherโ€”from planning to executionโ€”to make the program smooth and meaningful. ๐Ÿค

The Holy Cross of Davao Collegeโ€“College Red Cross Youth (HCDC-CRCY) just wrapped up its advocacy event, โ€œCrossblazers & The Humanitarian Call: Saving Lives in Crisis.โ€ It was a productive day that brought together students from Social Work, AB Political Science, NSTP, Criminology, and Social Studies to talk about what it really means to protect people during conflict.

A major takeaway came from Ms. Mary Louise E. Armilla, LPT, who reminded us that โ€œIHL admits that wars are inevitable... It does not prevent war, but it limits its effects and protects the vulnerable. Even war have limits.โ€ Her words served as a powerful reminder that even in the most difficult times, our humanity should never be set aside.

Equally compelling was the insight from Atty. Sigrid Kim G. Mier-Brigoli, JD, who focused on our local context by stating that โ€œPhilippine IHL seeks to protect the dignity of the most vulnerable and reinforces that no one is above the law, even in times of conflict in our nationโ€™s context.โ€ This served as another crucial takeaway, showing that the law is a real, breathing tool for accountability that keeps our justice system firm, even in the middle of a crisis.

The speakers did more than just present facts; they really moved our delegates. Hearing these truths firsthand helped our students see that human rights is a personal responsibility. It changed the perspective of our future leaders, showing them how to lead with both a clear head and a compassionate heart.

This event has left a lasting impact on the HCDC community and beyond, empowering our Crossblazers to step up as active voices for peace. We are walking away ready to stand for human dignity, no matter the challenge.

Following a meaningful morning session on the basics of International Humanitarian Law with the Philippine Red Cross, our delegates transitioned from fundamental principles to the rigors of legal accountability.

The afternoon session was led by Atty. Sigrid Kim G. Mier-Brigoli โ€“ Human Rights Attorney IV, CHR Regional Office XI. She provided us an in-depth discussion on Republic Act No. 9851, or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity. She emphasized that the law is not just a set of rules, but a vital shield for the vulnerable and a tool for holding violators accountable.

The session remained vibrant as delegates from Social Work, AB Political Science, NSTP, Criminology, Social Studies, and Red Cross Youth engaged in a profound Open Forum. Students and faculty tackled modern realities, from the psychological toll of conflict to the intersection of faith and legal neutrality, effectively bridging academic theory with human rights advocacy.

We close this day empowered with the knowledge that while conflict is a harsh reality, the law remains a steadfast guardian of human dignity.

On the final day of the Cross Blazers Cup 2026, the HCDC Gymnasium comes alive with energy, passion, and celebration as the Mega Crew takes the stage. โ›‘๏ธ
