The distinctive drooping trees around the Tomb of King David area on Mount Zion, they are often described as weeping trees, especially weeping cypress or weeping willow varieties, because their branches hang downward in a bowed or mourning posture.

That imagery fits well with the deep history and spirituality of the site.

Beneath the weeping trees of Mount Zion, where tradition remembers King David, history feels alive and every prayer carries the echoes of generations.

Standing at the Kotel, I’m amazed by the sight of so many people taking time to praise Hashem, pray, and pour out their hearts. In a world that moves so fast, this place is a powerful reminder of faith, gratitude, and devotion. May our prayers rise with theirs.

In this lecture, we explore the teachings of Chapter 3 of Tanya, where Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi explains the intellectual faculties of the divine soul and their role in spiritual growth.

This chapter introduces the concepts of Chochmah (wisdom), Binah (understanding), and Da’at (knowledge), the three intellectual powers through which a person perceives, develops, and internalizes awareness of HaShem. These faculties serve as the foundation for the emotions of love, reverence, and devotion that emerge within the soul.

Through the lens of Jewish teachings, this chapter emphasizes that genuine spiritual development begins with understanding and contemplation. By cultivating wisdom, deepening understanding, and firmly connecting knowledge to the heart, a person can strengthen their relationship with the Almighty and live with greater purpose and awareness.

This lecture was delivered by Moreh Gilbert (Azaryah) V. Meñoza while residing in Israel during the time of recording, providing insights from the land where many of the foundational events of the Torah and Jewish tradition took place.
