WHO WE ARE: Add Peace Mindanao Inc., as a non-profit organization, aims to create an environment that facilitates conflict resolution, minimizes violence, and supports long-lasting peace in Mindanao since 2022. Our distinct

ive role in Mindanao involves providing valuable insights to other agencies and institutions focused on peace and security while emphasizing the unique government resources and expertise that can help resolve violent conflicts. We also focus on repairing damaged relationships between conflicting groups or individuals, dispelling harmful stereotypes, and building strong community bonds. WHAT WE DO: We work closely with government agencies, think tanks, and NGOs to encourage open discussions aimed at strengthening Mindanao's role in promoting peace and security. Our main focus is on showcasing the unique experiences and resources within the local government system to effectively address conflicts. We also conduct research to gather and share relevant information, raising awareness and advocating for positive change, this also include monitoring and evaluating programs, especially those related to participation and governance aligned with local development goals. We also support peacebuilding and provide training to local development professionals, equipping them with the skills to handle conflict situations. Our expertise extends to developing and implementing programs before, during, and after instances of violent conflict, addressing the drivers of such conflicts and violence, while also strengthening resilience to build sustainable peace in Mindanao. WHY MINDANAO: Consider a nation as you would a human body. Just like a person can't be healthy if one part is strong while another is weak, a stunning capital city like Manila doesn't make the whole country beautiful. This is why we prioritize addressing the challenges in the south, which is still catching up to the progress seen in the north. The challenges in Mindanao are national issues, and people from other parts of the country shouldn't dismiss them as distant or irrelevant. In reality, Filipino taxpayers finance efforts to address the โ€œMoro rebellionโ€, and communist-terrorist activities, soldiers recruited to combat these elements often hail from different regions of the Philippines, and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Mindanao frequently seek refuge in crowded cities in Luzon and Visayas. Domoyog, Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte โ€” APMI volunteers engaged children, families, and community members in activities promoting marine conservation, care for coastal resources, and environmental responsibility through storytelling, reading, and interactive learning.

The engagement also included a dialogue with the local Peopleโ€™s Organization, where community members shared their livelihood experiences, needs, and ideas for possible income-generating activities. Discussions focused on how APMI can support communities through an initial approach centered on capacity-building, skills development, and practical training before exploring opportunities for livelihood start-up support and longer-term community initiatives.

Volunteers and community members also shared a simple meal, creating an informal space for dialogue, relationship-building, and exchange.

APMI continues to promote a community-led approach that links environmental stewardship, learning, livelihood resilience, and local participation toward more inclusive and sustainable development.

On Day 2 of LAWIG, APMI, together with MENRO, community members, and volunteers, planted 50 Magkuno (Ironwood) trees in Brgy. Domoyog, Del Carmen, Siargao Island.

The activity formed part of LAWIGโ€™s broader commitment to strengthening environmental stewardship through locally led and community-based action. By bringing together local stakeholders and volunteers, the tree-planting activity highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting and restoring natural ecosystems.

The planting of Magkuno trees also represents a long-term investment in environmental resilience and the preservation of native species for future generations.

APMI continues to support practical, inclusive, and community-driven initiatives that contribute to sustainable development and stronger local ecosystems.

As part of LAWIG: A Coastal Stewardship Journey with Del Carmen Fisherfolk, APMI, in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Del Carmen, conducted a mangrove planting activity aimed at strengthening community-based coastal stewardship and contributing to the protection and restoration of coastal ecosystem.

Prior to the planting activity, Ms. Gina M. Barquilla of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) served as the technical resource person, facilitating an orientation and knowledge-sharing session for participants on the importance of mangrove ecosystems and the proper methods of mangrove planting.

The session provided participants with essential knowledge to ensure that the activity was undertaken with greater understanding and responsibility, reinforcing that successful mangrove restoration goes beyond planting seedlings and requires appropriate practices, continued care, and long-term community stewardship.

Mangroves are vital natural assets for coastal communities. They provide habitats and nursery grounds for marine life, support local livelihoods, help protect shorelines from waves and storm surges, and contribute to climate resilience.

Del Carmen, Siargao Island โ€” Add Peace Mindanao Inc. (APMI) and the Local Government Unit of Del Carmen formally strengthened their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Pledge of Commitment, reinforcing a shared commitment to inclusive community development, environmental stewardship, peacebuilding, and sustainable local action.

The signing was undertaken in connection with LAWIG: A Coastal Stewardship Journey with Del Carmen Fisherfolk, implemented under APMIโ€™s flagship Lingkod Kapayapaan (Service of Peace) programme.

The MOU establishes a framework for continued cooperation between APMI and LGU Del Carmen, with emphasis on community participation, locally led initiatives, coastal and environmental protection, and the meaningful engagement of fisherfolk, youth, families, and other local stakeholders.

The Pledge of Commitment further reflects the collective responsibility of partners and participants to sustain the principles and actions advanced through LAWIG beyond the programme activities, translating shared commitments into long-term community stewardship and collaborative action.

Through this partnership, APMI and LGU Del Carmen reaffirm the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation in advancing resilient, peaceful, and sustainable communities.

This August 6โ€“7, 2026, we journey to the shores of Del Carmen, Siargao Island to listen, to plant, and to restore, hand in hand with the fisherfolk community.

LAWIG is a two-day coastal stewardship activity where volunteers and community come together to:

๐ŸŒฑ Plant mangroves and trees along the coast
๐ŸŒŽ Restore the shoreline that shelters and sustains so many
๐Ÿค Build peace through shared care for our environment

Because when we heal the coast, we also heal the community, and where the sea is cared for, peace takes root.

An initiative under Lingkod Kapayapaan, the flagship program of Add Peace Mindanao, Inc. (APMI), in cooperation with the Municipality of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, Philippines.

Held in the spirit of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, and in observance of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026).

Today, June 24, the world marks the International Day of Women in Diplomacy to honor the women who help build peace and shape decisions that affect us all.

We often picture diplomacy in summit halls, behind microphones, in rooms far from here. But in Mindanao, peace is also built much closer to the ground.

It is built by the woman who steps into a tense conversation between neighbors and keeps it from breaking. By the nanay who holds her family steady through hardship. By the community elder, the dialogue facilitator, the young volunteer who listens before she speaks. They carry no title, no delegation, no flag, yet day after day, they mend the relationships that hold a community together.

That, too, is diplomacy.

Across our island, Lumad, Moro, and Christian communities alike, women lead quiet, patient peace work that rarely makes headlines but holds the social fabric in place. It reminds us that peace is not the work of a few. It belongs to everyone, and it grows strongest when every voice is included.

At Add Peace Mindanao, women's leadership and voice are not an afterthought, they are part of how we work, and part of how peace is sustained in everyday life.
