📢 BUGAS CAPACITY BUILDING SEMINAR | JULY 25–26, 2026

Strengthening our knowledge. Empowering our community. Building a safer and more inclusive future.

The Buhangin Barangay Council, in partnership with the Buhangin United Gender Alliance Support (BUGAS), successfully conducted the BUGAS Capacity Building Seminar held on July 25–26, 2026 at AP Bonjoc Staycation House, Brgy. Canaan, Island Garden City of Samal.

The seminar focused on two important laws that promote protection, respect, and human rights:

✅ Republic Act No. 7610 – Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act

✅ Republic Act No. 11313 – Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law)

✅ Online Sexual Abuse and Expoitation of Children

This activity served as an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of these laws, strengthen leadership and community engagement, and reaffirm BUGAS’ commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Buhangin Barangay Council headed by Punong Barangay Francisco V. Gamad, GAD Focal Kag. Gladdys Manit, our resource speakers from CSWDO Sir Melchor Monter, Ms. Marjorie Dizon and Ms. Angeline Dinawanao, organizers, Barangay Functionaries and staff and all participants for making this seminar a meaningful and successful learning experience.

DUAW DAVAO PRIDE 2026 🧜‍♂️🌊

For years, LGBTQ+ people have been called sirena, shokoy, and lamang dagat—labels meant to shame and dehumanize us.

Today, BUGAS reclaims these stories. We proudly represent every sirena and shokoy, transforming symbols of ridicule into symbols of strength, resilience, and PRIDE.

Long before colonial narratives sought to erase us, our ancestors honored gender-diverse figures like the Babaylan and Lakapati. Today, we continue that legacy—visible, empowered, and proud.

We are not monsters of the sea. We are the tide that cannot be stopped.

Congratulations to Mohd Ambutong, LakanBini 2026 2nd Runner-Up, for placing 2nd in the Individual Costume Competition at the Duaw Davao Pride Parade 2026.
