𝗨𝗜𝗖 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺

Three senior students from the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies (BAELS) program proudly represented the University of the Immaculate Conception at the 5th International Research Forum organized by University of the Immaculate Conception in collaboration with Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya. The students participated in one of the most anticipated academic gatherings, showcasing their research excellence and scholarly engagement.

During the event, the seniors presented their study entitled "𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗔 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 ” through a poster presentation. Their research explored how visual elements in billboard advertisements work together to convey meaning, influence audiences, and reflect social identities within the local context of Davao City.

Truly, this participation demonstrated UIC’s commitment to research innovation and academic excellence in the field of linguistics.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 (𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐒) 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 5𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐋𝐌𝐔 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬

Graced by distinguished linguistics professors and scholars worldwide, the 5th ILMU International Lecture Series on Applied Linguistics served as a global platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas in language studies. The event provided an avenue for participants to engage in meaningful discussions on topics such as language education, sociolinguistics, and the practical applications of linguistic research in diverse contexts.

Indeed, the Society of United Language Students (SOULS) aimed to broaden the academic perspectives, enhance the understanding of applied linguistics, and establish connections with fellow language enthusiasts and professionals. This participation also reflected the organization’s commitment to promoting linguistic awareness and scholarly engagement within and beyond the university community.

The SOULS extends its heartfelt gratitude to the USEP Language Society for organizing such an enriching and inspiring event.

This milestone marks a new chapter of learning beyond borders. Congratulations to Hannah Cabasan, a fourth-year ELS student, and Prof. Hannah Jane Matol, ELS faculty member, for representing the program on this remarkable journey!

As of now, they’ve been settling in Taiwan and have already kicked off their Day 1 activities. 🌸
